I need to rant....

Been looking forward to a 2 week break in Nerja, Spain for ages. Arrived yesterday at Malaga and after finally getting the hire car went to load it up with our luggage and get myself, the wife and our 2 little ones to the villa. While loading the car up, we turned our back on the luggage for literally a couple of seconds, when I looked back at it, some had stopped his car, his mate got out, and grabbed some bags. I noticed when he picked the bags up, so shouted at him to stop, and legged it after them. So the thief jumped in the car and they sped off. At this point I was running alongside the s and managed to punch the driver in the face through the open window, but then they got away. This was all in an underground car rental car park in Malaga airport to which there are no barriers to get in/out so they've got a clean getaway route.

So all in all, they got a rucksack which contained: All 4 passports, my wallet, wife's purse, both driving licenses, iPad, iPod, TomTom satnav, digital camera, both of our mobiles, our villa keys and directions, sunglasses etc. And they also took the baby change bag so we had no bottles to feed him with, no nappies, nothing. To say I was fking livid is an understatement.

To restore my faith in humanity an english passer-by who witnessed the whole thing came over and took us to the police station, in which we spent the whole afternoon making statements and reviewing CCTV footage. As we had no money or anything, he lent us some Euros and gave us the use of his mobile to call all the credit card companies, etc. The car was seen on CCTV so the police now have the car reg, but it was probably nicked anyway.

So day 1 of the holiday here we were left in Spain, with no ID, no money, no idea where we were going, a 5 year old and an 8 month old with no food or change facilities, and absolutely no idea what we were going to do. fking s.

So after many frantic phonecalls back to UK we finally managed to get ourselves to the villa which luckily has this laptop / wifi so we can at least check out our banks etc. and now we have to go to the fking consulate to see if we can get passports to get home. I can't fking believe this start to the holiday and it's ruined it for us. My 5 year old daughter who saw everything was physically shaking and is now very subdued and paraniod that they're gonna come back and I think that's actually the worst part for me. Material stuff we can replace, but the affect it has had on her makes me want to murder the bds.

Sorry but needed to vent.....the fking s.

Sounds like a nightmare, good work getting in a punch through a window of a moving vehicle! smile

The consulate I am sure will be very helpful and your insurance company may render assistance as well - worth a quick call to them. You should be able to pick up an international calling card for very few € to make calling home etc cost next to nothing.

All the best, Kris

Similar thing happened to me at Alicante airport when returning a hire car. Bag nicked containing credit cards, passports, driving licences etc. and keys to my XJ parked at Manchester airport!!

Reported to Guardia Civil at the airport and copy of the report received. Got to Manchester airport passport control, explained that passports had been nicked showing the Police report and they were fine with that, straight in.

Just had to wait for son to turn up from Nottingham with spare car keys frown

Did anything in there have your UK address? Might be worth calling friends to keep an eye on the house at home, you have not idea how these scum work.

Don’t give them the benefit if running your holiday, and I know easier said than done, try to have a good time. Everything in the bag can be replaced and will be covered by insurance, if not then it can at least be replaced. I know its gut wrenching but don’t give these aholes the satisfaction of ruining your break.

Good luck mate.

Not good at all.

What a bunch of s, but I imagine this is how they operate on a regular basis. Probably slip someone in authority some euros and they'll never be caught.

Am off on Saturday - not Spain, but reinforces the need to keep everything in my bag on me at all times.

If you need anything done here, PM me.

Cheers

st sorry to hear OP.

Just a thought, have you had the locks changed on the Villa? If they have the keys AND directions to the Villa, what's to say they won't try their luck a second time?

Although nowhere near as bad, I'm also livid at the fact some theiving scumbag of a stole the OH's mobile phone from Dubs at the Castle yesterday! The phone was st anyway, but it had a load of photo's and videos of our little ones, including the birth of my daughter (now 12 weeks old). s!

ETA - just to add that if there is anything I can help out with, let me know. thumbup

Tossers. But they do target people loading cases into Hire Cars - they are all parked together in set areas of the car parks which, because you are distracted makes you an easy target, you'll have your hands full & are unlikely to know the area frown

Notify the people you rented the Villa from, so they can change the locks. Get a friend to keep an eye on your place as they have your address.

Not a clue how you can get money out there, as you've lost your ID as well frown Short of getting a good mate/family to bung some cash onto one of those TopUp cards today, putting it in an envelope & sending it via DHL so it is tracked?

Good luck!

This happens more often than you would think. One of the japanese directors at work had his bag stolen in Spain whilst on hols with his family. All passports gone, wallet, keys, mobile, laptop, work permit etc. Local police and consulate were very helpful.

His wife had taken photocopies of the passports and kept them in her handbag so at least they had some sort of evidence of who they were. How many of us would think to do that though!

I arranged to change the locks in his house in UK for piece of mind. I would definitely be getting the locks on that villa changed.
