Went to the Auto Show in Motion at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Was 10th in line for a drive on a manual C6 when they shut the line down because of high winds! Guess I'll have to take that trip to the dealer after all!

Have to say despite the obvious advantages of more horsies and updated technology, the looks still do nothing for me. A couple of nice touches inside but still looks very Japanese from the front and I prefer the C5 rounded tail. Not sure about the plastic tail fairing with the reversing lights.

I was hoping to have something positive to say about the drive but...........

I wonder if there will be an aftermarket front bumper and or rear under-spoiler that would address the looks issue for most people.

I think one of the fundamental problems is that since the early 80's, the Corvette front end had the nuberplate styled in - made it look much neater in the flesh. Interesting how most modern cars have forgotten to consider this (C6, RX8 etc...) (Brett _ I know you've a fix for this....)

When the C5 came out I thought it looked a little Japanese in the photos - but remember getting rather attached to the page in the Eckler's catalogue that showed the high rise hood on a red C5 - I think it absolutely transformed the car.

Good luck with getting a go!

I've been thinking of getting a new Focus but from the early pictures it looks as though the design was updated by the same team that did the C6! The originality of the previous model has been watered down in the interest of broader appeal even though the Focus already sells extremely well in some markets.

I think GM and Ford are bonkers to water down distinctive designs. Meanwhile Audi is taking on Bentley in the "who can design the worst front" competition!

Back of the C6 looks good in my opinion. Proportions of sides are curious but perfectly acceptable. Front is feeble.

Think I'll have to see if I can buy in to the old Richard Grant Accessories business. Worrying that they could probably do it better isn't it !

Manufacturers are giving the new regulations about pedestrian impact survivability as the main reason why cars are looking so ugly nowadays. Another bunch of regs thought up by people who don't have enough to do.

Well I went back to the show this morning and was first in line. Drove the stock manual coupe and I have to say it drove a lot better than its looks. First impression was how quiet it was (too quiet?) Gone is the burble of the C5. The new engine is responsive and the gearbox nice and tight. The course was heavily doctored with cones to slow the punters down. Managed to get into 3rd briefly and topped out at 85. The car handled well. Still have problems with the looks but a positive impression. All largely irrelevant as the C5 is coming back to UK!

Also had a go in an SSR and that truck/car is very cool!

Gee - and if you're in a 2002 you probably don't even have the constant whine of the fuel pimp. Can't say I've yet felt the need to stick an old door mat in the rear wheel arches but understand that's more or less what they've done for the C6. IMO the auto needs another ratio for quieter high speed cruising even if it makes no difference to performance & gas mileage.

Must admit the C6 looks better and better to me. Might even be tempted to sell the ZR1. I like the C5 but not enough to want to change. The idea of a C6 "king of the hill" appeals. maybe next year!!!!
