golf cutting out

hi i have a mk4 1.6l 16v golf that randomly cuts out when i have stopped in traffic revs dont drop and i sometimes dont notice till i go to set off but it always starts again first time.
My engine emmissions light also came on when plugged in it said it was the bank one sensor it looked fine but i cleaned it any way the light is still on but i havent turned it of with the computer as i didnt know if it would go of on its own or not please help its driving me mad!!

Whether it looks alright or not, is unfortunately no help to you. If they go they do not look any different.

You are probably best to change the sensor, get the EML code reset & see if that helps.

Even if it is not the cause you need to eliminate obvious faults to help with the rest of the diagnosis.

If you can, you are best to get the correct sensor, rather than one of the "universal" ones, as I have found them to be cheaper yes, but less reliable on the whole. Some cars are more sensitive in this respect than others.

thank u i thought they possibly looked burnt out or like a spark coroded lol, its my first car i am modifying so a bit green cheers loads i will get a new one do u think it has anything to do with it cutting out?

clean out throttle body the disconet battery then recont in about 10 min see if that helps it

It is possible, but it certainly won't help.

One of the symptoms in some cars is rough/erratic idling, so as you know it seems to be dodgy, change it & then see what happens.

What martycossie says could be worth a try too, also when you are under the bonnet, have a good look round for any loose plugs or hoses around the intake side of the engine.
