Hi pistonheaders

Looking for some help, i recently had my f430 front end resprayed because of some stone chips etc, when it has come back the bonnet is not quite right. See the video here..

http://sdrv.ms/1boXFGa

As you can see there is a spot where the reflection is wrong and something has happened to the paint, do anyone have any idea what they have done wrong? Have the flattened the paint to much and caused a dip? They re trying to tell me that the panel has some imperfections caused by the fact its double skinned and this is the support underneath... i think this is in correct

Any help much appreciated

Thats due to 2 things .

1) The paint was rubbed down in small areas to remove stone chips , and not finished correctly in the last stages of the prep work before laying down colour coat and lacquer , which will leave shallows not seen until colour coat and lacquer go on , "when its too late"

2) The paint (lacquer) got some dirt , much , dust , eye lash on the surface and a small area has been "de nibbed" to remove contaminant which WILL leave what looks like very small shallow dent.

What I am sure of it NOT anything to do with double skin wink

thank you so much for replying, is this an easy fix for the body shop? a rub down and respray / lacquer should sort it out?

I am literally at my wits end with the body shop and don't want them anywhere near the car, I presume you could fix this? I have seen the work you did on the Enzo!

If we were to measure paint depth and theres enough scope , we might be able to sort it without repainting it , if there not enough scope (to leave recommended paint depth for durability) but enough to wet flat without going through the lacquer (not to disturb the base colour coat)then we can just re-lacquer the panel in question.

what ever the option its something we can sort for you wink

Could Kelly or an engineer not do a report to you on the defect and then you may be able to get the body shop to make a contribution to the further costs you now have to incur? Just a thought ...

Not sure what the bonnet is made of but is also looks like a possible blocking mark in the old finish where they have tried to remove a chip or someone has done the same in the primer/undercoat, if they used any.

Can’t tell from the vid exactly but thinking a bit more about it if they tried to just flat out the stone chip locally with a small semi hard block ( we use nylon or ptfe ) and didn’t spread the flatting process then this would cause this effect.

Remedy might have to be guide coat and block flat the area, if this doesn’t remove imperfection then you may have to spot prime and block flat this to get it spot on prior to any finish being reapplied
