I've had a Muguiars drying towel for years but it's way past it's best. So, what's the done thing when it comes drying the car post wash, another towel, chamois or something else? I need to let Santa know what to bring ASAP.

Get another drying towel, the old wash leathers are well old and easily damage the paint if not perfectly clean.

Loads of towels to choose from on the market now!

I don't think I'm quite ready for your ultimate solution yet, but the linked towel looks good.

Chemical Guys Wooly Mamoth drying towel thumbup from cleanyourcar.com. Also I can dry the whole of one side of a main deck housing of a 50 metre yacht with one of these in 1/10th of the time compared to an Absorber Chamois without ringing the water out. Don't even think of using the old fashioned leather. Pat the surface or cover lightly, no dragging it over the paint work.

The autoglym aqua dry towel is quite good too, used one for years and its very absorbent.
