Burning smell...

Hi, regarding a DPF (another blessing bestowed on us for our sins), can they smell?

at intervals of about 1000 miles i get a burning smell, its not oil or rubber or like wiring afire,, its not boiling water, its not a catalytic converter/rotten eggs, more....bakelite (ish, and while i can smell it around the car i wouldnt say its coming from the engine bay

the DPF is the only thing on this car ive not had before

Very normal behaviour for a DPF. They get extremely hot under regen and often smell a bit.

wasnt hoping the car was gonna burn to a pile ashes at all....
