just wondering best way to deal with removing worn valve guides some people suggest not to remove but to drill and fit K-liners because they end up scoring and damaging the cylinderhead. So whats the proper technique to removing valve guides?

I assume you are removing from an aluminium head. If you heat the head to around 150 degrees then the guides should shift without too many issues in a press or with careful use of a drift. If you are putting the same ones back in make sure you mark their radial position as they are rarely perfectly concentric(I know in your case the guides a re being replaced but this is not always the case). Although there is the possibility of the guide bore galling in my experience this is a rare occurrence. I routinely remove the guides from aluminium heads (over 600 heads so far) and have only had issues on a very small number and these were easily solved.

K-lining is also a good solution and the material is often superior to the base material of the guide, just make sure they are fitted by someone with experience.

Give head to machine shop

Give machine shop money

Collect head after work complete.
