Hi chaps,

I bought myself a Ducati Multi strada DS 1000 – yes its very ugly but mu plans involve stripping it down to show off that Trellis frame.

I have a issue with the idle… basically one the bike is warm and come to a set of lights the engine idle drops to 9-800rpm and then just drops to 700 and dies.
I can find any joy through the Ducati forums so I thought I may as well ask on here.

I have been told the Multistrada’s idle speed is ecu controlled and it doesn’t have a idle control adjustment on the throttle bodies. I am not sure if this is true.

If there is anyone who is familiar with these types of issues help would be appreciated.

Hi

I have the same problem, took the throttle bodies off and look like there's a small screw to adjust the idle
Did you ever get it sorted? I won't take my bike into a city as i have to keep the revs up all the time.

What ECU do you have?? If you don't know the type take a picture and post here. There are a few different processes in regards to setting up the Idle rpm, mixture and TPS. However, regardless of ECU type there is meant to be a stepper motor/idle control motor that's ECU controlled. First check if this is working.
You can check if this is working as it should pass more air when the bike is cold which bypasses the throttle plates to raise the idle.. this is the first point to check. Or is the cold idle ok??
If this is open when cold then closing as the engine warms you'll need to get the throttle bodies balanced and TPS reset. You'll need someone with a Mathesis tester or the Technoresearch tool which they need to reset the idle mixture and CO level with. There are bypass screws in each TB but these are used for TB balancing not idle setting. And avoid just screwing the TB's in a bit as the ECU will read the incorrect position and then not be on idle.

Renn, is it a black 1000S DS with Ohlins, 55 Plate with c23,000 miles on it ?? Sounds like my old bike, and if it is I'd recommend you move it back on, I know that's not super helpful but trying to save you some pain, if it is mine last service stamp will be Snells from cMarch.

As GT3 said get everything checked and if it still doesn't clear the issue it could be the valve guide issue that is common on multi's of that vintage. Whip the rocker cover off the front exhaust as it's easy and see how much play is in the valve stem. Does it burn a bit of oil on startup ?
