Mr Bean, who has a diamond ring and bracelets stored in one of the vaults, said the robbers are believed to have entered through a lift shaft on Friday afternoon, evading security guards.
He said he had spoken to one security guard who told him he had checked the building on Friday after an alarm sounded.
Mr Bean said: 'He went downstairs, looked through the door, through the windows and couldn't see anything and came out again, that was it.
'I said well "why didn't you open up and have a look in?" He told me he doesn't get paid enough.

You would think that such a setup would have some kind of remote monitoring - and if the systems suddenly go down security is sent to the scene to investigate.

I could be missing something but how did they manage to abseil down the lift shaft. Would the lift not have blocked their path.
They came equipped to cut through thick steel vault doors. The thin walls of a lift would have been a doddle. From the movies, lifts seem to have an escape hatch on their tops so maybe that one did too.jmorgan said:
"Right sir, let me repeat that back so we can reimburse you, you had several crowns, a sceptre, the star of India, every version of a Rolex all diamond encrusted........"
According to reports in the press many of the jewellers who kept their valuables here did not have insurance. Considering the money we're talking about that seems like a mad decision. Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
