This announcement is second only to Half Life 3 in terms of 'How fking long? How fking much have we asked?'. I'll be getting it though, certainly, and I hope it breathes some life back into the Shenmue series going forward.

Wait... WHAT?!

Having just had a look at some summary vids, there has been some cracking things announced at E3:-

- Star Wars Battlefront. The PS4 gameplay was stunning.
- Xbone backwards compatibility. This can only be a good thing.
- The Last Guardian. This looks as special as Ico/Shadow of the Colossus.
- Halo 5. The Warzone trailer was fantastic.

But this.... this is something else entirely. YS/Sony have pulled it out of the bag with this, and separately, a remake of FF7.

Exciting times.

This is going to be great (I hope).

A few things - I hope it preserves the charm of the original, I am sure it will. Hope there will be some Sega arcade classics in there somewhere.

One thing I would love is to have the original games available to download allowing the whole trilogy to be played through on the PS4 but I reckon that is too much to ask. Just having part III is massive.

I haven't got a PS4 yet, but if this really happens it will sell me the system...ready for Christmas 2017 - can't wait!!

I read somewhere that it is unlikely to feature the same kind of arcade games as the previous titles. Sega owns all the rights to them and Sega isn't involved in producing Shenmue 3

This is good news but I'm not sure I share the overall excitement. Yes, I agree the originals were some of the best games ever made, but that was because they were way ahead of their time. Free roaming games just didn't really exist in the way Shenmue presented and at the time the graphics were unbelievable.
Other than reviving an old story line I don't see what the game play could offer that would be as revolutionary as before. I'm not saying it will be bad, just that it's a tough act to follow, especially now the rest of the game developers have caught up with the genre.

I'm not familiar with the franchise, but is $2m going to being enough?

I'd think you'd need 10x that to make a decent, but small scale console game. Something really epic like GTA would cost 100x easy.

Only just realised this is coming out and I loved both Shenmue 1 & 2 and can remember finishing them both when they first came out on the Dreamcast, currently working my way through Shenmue 1 again at the moment and still love it.

Looking forward to 3 coming now...its been a very long wait.
