I dont know exactly, but its a lot! Plastic ones are used in racing.

An alternative view is that if D9 told me that st stinks, Id still want to sniff it myself in order to be sure.

Dont know anything about D9 but I have lifted a 944 hatch with knackered shocks and it is quite a weight!

27kg is well believable.

I have to pick up my spare one from time to time to get to stuff in the back of the garage. 27 kg sounds about right to me.

Close enough. When I was building my race car we weighed practically everything using a set of scales:

25.2 Kg

Add the wiper and lifters would easily come to 27 Kg

Also note the ludicrous difference between the claimed weight of 944 pop up headlights compared to the weight of the components that came off my car. Its worthwhile removing them only on a race car and then on on one where the lights are replaced by a blank panel.

Like to add that as we found when building the car the doors are unbelievably heavy, quite a lot of weight could be lost in that area.

By trimming them after fitting a weld-in cage, and not by buying GRP doors, which will weigh the same but take an eternity to make fit...

How on earth did you find the old weights thread???

Bookmarked Simon the last time I had difficulty finding it. I think back then I did a search on part AND weights or something like that. I still have all the metal in my doors btw and the original heater at 1120 Kg. I know an outfit down here that does all the work on my Megane, they recently fitted a rally style mini heater and gutted the doors on a customers clio I believe saving 40kg in total.

BTW for anyone else, if its front engined and raced in PCGB club championship it will/would still have had the original glass hatch mine included. The poly hatches whilst saving weight are not without many compromises, for starters you have to destroy a perfectly decent glass one of your own to make it (need the frame) and they don't have anything like the rigidity of a glass hatch. Decent weight saving though.

You can, but it needs to be thicker than 4mm and it needs to be perfectly shaped.

I just want to remove the glass from the frame.

I want to preserve the frame, not the glass.

Can that be done without breaking it?

Or is it easier to just smash it?

You can buy complete units on eBay for peanuts.

Break it with the hatch in-situ and then fit the replacement 'glass' without removing it from the car.
