We have a kitchen of approx 10-12sqm of ceiling space, with approx 10sqm of flooring, images below show the general layout.

We are struggling between 9 or 12 lights. We don't want to over do it & burn out retinas, but at the same time don't want to go below the ''done'' thing with LEDs per sqm etc?

Can anyone advise?

Thanks

The images aren't showing.

Rather than numbers per square metre, you really need to look at what you'll be doing where & how you want that lit. You also need to think about not having them too close to tall units.

If you've got the beam angles of the LEDs you're looking at, you can do a few quick calculations & tweak the layout to make sure there aren't any 'dark spots'.

speak with E36GUY on here - he did brilliant job on our kitchen LED lighting (Zep1s in utility, Zep6s in kitchen ceiling, colour changing LEDs for ceiling 'wash' and under breakfast bar seating 'wash', white LEDs for under cabinet task lighting, white LEDs for inside cupboard lighting, white LEDs for lower floor plinth lighting) - more lighting than you imagine but well worth it.

And take Guy's advice re ceiling placement, makes much more sense than the drones in sheds views...

Guy's company is http://www.ecoledlight.co.uk/ - fully recommended!

Oh and these people for light switch gear - https://www.myswitchshop.com/

I can second the recommendation for ecoled — we've got 17 ZEP1s in our kitchen (plus numerous other ZEP1s & ZEP2s elsewhere in the house) & are VERY happy with them.

Pictures have been updated, not sure how I imbed Dropbox. Might help give an idea of what we are looking at. Colour is now a light sage green though, and not the yellow /cream.

I'll have a a look at that website, I have a nasty feeling it will be out of our price range judging from a first glance. This is a Wrens kitchen, so nothing fancy or hand crafted!

Thanks smile

You might be surprised.

What others are saying Andeh is that what you want to look at is placing the lighting to work with the kitchen. It's not a case of how many. If you leave it to your contractor you'll probably end up with more than you need. Have you got a floorplan you can send me?

My kitchen is about 10sqm and we have 4 LED spots in the ceiling and LED strips under all of the high cabinets, which is plenty of light with both on, we usually only need one or the other.

Well Guy has provided us with a very reasonable price for the LEDs, I am now looking for suitable switches for them.

With the kitchen & snug being on shared switches, I would likely need a switch with dimmable + normal switch next to it (or some combination of). Either that of a separate dimmer for the kitchen LEDs, but it still being turned on/off via the other 3 switches we having put in.

Can anyone recommend anything?

Thanks

Have a chat with the team at https://www.myswitchshop.com/ as they made us a set of customer 4 way plates mixing dimmers (eclique) and switches - great team,
