Oh heck Andy, that's not good, must have given you a bit of a moment!!!
Had time to see what actually failed?
...after driving through most of sunday in the rain, just 7 miles from home....accelerated away form the roundabout (not even aggressively for me) and as well as wet, I think there was a drop of that lovely diesel stuff and the back end went, and once it hit the wet grass I was just a passenger...Had time to see what actually failed?
...all went well with beautiful pirouettes until the lamppost got involved...the next thing I know I have the ultimate wide open bonnet!!! - think the chassis is OK, and the car still runs, but will need to be checked over (I know the rad didn't like having a bonnet ripped across it)..
But I didn't get hurt thankfully...dont like rain...or diesel leaking Norfolk tractors/beat lorries....Grrr
PS: If Glen reads this, dont worry I only put the top up after it crashed...
Sorry to see this Andy but relieved you're OK. Sounds very like my experience in Scotland in 2011.
I have a set of mild steel ones you can borrow if you need to get back on the road. So long as the chassis and the rad are OK then it should be a relatively straight forward fiberglass job for someone who knows what they are doing. Good luck.

Oh sh@t Andy, main thing you and or any passengers are ok.
Stuff can be rebuilt over time.
I thought the same seeing the first pic, thought the hinges had given way and you'd lost the bonnet
But ..... Wow did a little dance and well.... Bloody lamppost.
Really feel for you mate.

Gordon Bennett Andy! That's not so good to see At least it looks like the front indicator lenses have survived thank heaven.
The main thing is that you are ok.
What state is your radiator in? Is it repairable? If you need a replacement, I have Damian's old one which is straight but it needs repair, it weeps from a couple of places at the base of the core. Let me know if you need it.
Hope you get your stripey S sorted in time for Chatsworth.
Don't worry about the roof, I had mine on for quite a bit this weekend, when I left Austin unattended in the rain to go walkabout at Oulton Park.
By the way, I have found that old Mondeos are better for off-roading
And I'm not sure what you mean about Norfolk beat lorries. Are they the big artics that roadies use to ferry all the famous Norfolk musicians'* equipment from one festival to another?

- I can only think of one, Alan Smethurst, the Singing Postman. I don't think he needed a fleet of pantechnicons......

Yes, not a good combination.
MikeS2 had a similar experience twice on the Cat & Fiddle twisties on last year's Barn Farm run.
Andy,
Just for the record, can you tell us what tyres you have on, their date code, and how much tread is left on them?
And is your radiator repairable? If not, PM me.

Co-er interesting moment, glad you're OK.
I used to supply the Stainless bonnet hinges but, alas no more. But I do have drawings etc which I am happy to share. jpeg below and if you let me have a PM with your email address happy to send a pdf.
Still glance in from time to time, noticed this thread when an old thread of mine was re-visited.
