Hi,

Ive recently been having some problems with my Golf, on start up, it makes a very loud noise, asif it is a diesel, which lasts for around 3 seconds and then goes. Also if ive been running my car for a few minutes or longer and then switch it off, if I then go to try and start it in the next 20 minutes it struggles to start. I haven't had the car that long so I dont really know if its down on power or if the engine is generally making any different sounds to usual. I have been told that the Timing Chain may be worn, shes only done 115K, could this possibly be the issue?

Thanks.

Hi there,
A few sites around the net mention cam chain tensioners as being an issue even as low as 20K so you may be right. One of these suggests something on the lines of noisy metallic sound on startup, low-rev 'stalling' noise accelerating away which clears with higher revs and speed.

I don't know much myself about chains as mine is a belt drive. However timing issues will loose you power, fuel economy and if it fails can cause significant damage. Best looked at ASAP!
