Ok, I need a mouser that is good with young kids (i.e. won't resent being handled/chased). Any recommended breeds?

Mog, I'd say.

But maybe try to tell the kids not to chase it?

Haven't rescue cats suffered enough, without leaving them to the tender mercies of someones rug-rats?

Another vote for Birmans. Great cats with (nice) kids and good rat/mouse catchers.

We have rescue mogs, one of them appears to want to kill every living thing on the planet, the other not so much

Ok, we narrowed it down to Birman, Siberian or Norwegian. Since the OH always thought she was more of a dog person, she got to choose one she liked, so here is Fireclaw! (named by TangoDelta, 3) looking slightly bewildered on day 1 but settling in beautifully now. Even standing her ground with an 18-month old shouting CAT! and pointing excitedly. OH has decided she must have been a cat person all along and not realised it.
