Hi...got quite a few stone chips on my DB9...legacy of having done 60k miles in it....was wondering what is the best way to remove the chips? Chipex, doing it myself...or get a company involved, like Chips Away
cheers

I'm no expert but i think if you got that many stone chips and want a perfect job your better to have the front end blown in, my Porsche 996 is the same and this is what i have been advised.

Chipsaway don't do stone chips.
Stopped doing them with the airbrush & removal fluid when they changed from DuPont Centari solvent based paint to Nexa Aquabase Plus a few years ago.

Their tag line has changed from 'We paint the chips not the car' to 'On the spot paint repairs'.

I suppose it's quicker for them to redo a whole panel than faff around with each chip.

That and the fact the water base paint is useless for the task, so for a job that is only ever going to be branded as a "touch up" to prevent rust, it then becomes something of a lose lose scenario. = The person employed to do the job gets a bad name and the customer isn't happy.

Incidentally the switch over that all reputable companies complied to circa 2007 regarding solvent to water based products was - and still is a total farce.
But the paint manufacturers have made a packet!!

Yes, they will spray the bonnet and then blend the paint into the wings so it matches.

I use my usual bodyshop in Sheffield for the DB9 as to be honest I just trust him and he knows I'm a whiny bh. Find a good local indy bodyshop that likes what they do and you'll be fine. My guy is in the corner and loks extremely dodgy but the guy is awesome.

Also watch out, the wings are fibreglass, my guy said you can't stick it in the oven if you paint the wings.

For the bonnet, bumper and 2 wings he'd charge £300. Mine after the front was sorted with chips etc.

Hi, I'd really appreciate details for the Sheffield bodyshop. I've a Porsche 996 with 60,000 miles worth of stone chips and I'd like to get it back to looking like it did when I bought 40,000miles ago.
Thanks Colin.

Regarding the guy in Sheffield, does he only do Astons or could he do a BMW?
