Main dealers... *grrrr*

My MY2010 XKR is due a 60,000 mile service. Called two local main dealers.

One tells me it needs a new auxilliary belt and spark plugs. £665 all-in.
Second one casually says £380. Belt depends on condition. Spark plugs not until 100k miles.

There's nothing in the service booklet about the intervals for belts and plugs. Can anybody help with some facts please?

Also I've found this page on the Jaguar website saying fixed-price servicing for cars older than 3 years means I shouldn't be paying more than £299 for a major service.

FPS usually excludes the R's.

Plugs and belts on my 4.2 XJR were at 10 years old, I imagine it is the same for your car.

Thanks guys.

Yep, it's a 5.0. The service book doesn't list the details but now that the Jaguar forum is working again (it went down yesterday) I've found a thread in which someone has posted the detail for the service intervals.

Spark plugs and supercharger belt are all due at 105k miles or seven years. Auxiliary belt is due at 150k miles.

To be fair to the three dealers, the confusion for my car is that their records show it's been serviced within the Jag network six times so it should be due the seventh service, which includes the belt and plugs. However, the first service on mine was done as an interim at 3k miles when it was sold to the first owner, but the second owner serviced it again at the recommended 13k miles, so I'm treating the service this time as the sixth service. smile

All three dealers have agreed to Jaguar's "3+" fixed-price service cost of £299. Man, I fking love this car!

Thanks for the heads up. I have just booked my XKR 5.0 in for a service at the same cost. The dealer didn't know the XKR was in the scheme till I drew their attention to the Jaguar website.

In the small print it says that R/Supercharged models are excluded?

Weird because the header of the column in the table says "XK 5.0NA 5.0SC" which seems to explicitly say that the 5.0 Super Charged engine is included in the column.

Yes, see if you can get away with it. It doesn't mention the 4.2SC XF in the header, so it seems a bit confused... Either way I have a very good Indy close to me so I'll be using them.

I suspect that my XKR won't stay at the main dealer for long. I've got a good independent too that I've used for years on my other Jags. I'm not sure the main dealer would own any spanners that would work on my other XK laugh

Well I asked the guy at the dealer this morning and he said that they were just as confused as to whether the XKR is covered by this fixed price servicing deal as we are. He said under the old scheme the it was simple, the XK wasn't one of the cars it was offered on. Hopefully he'll get some sort of answer out of Jaguar today as I'd rather he found out before I pay for my service.
I'll keep you posted.

I didn't get anywhere
Guy Salmon claimed they (Guy Salmon) are not part of the scheme.
I found trying to print out the Web page a real pita and ended up printing part of a screen shot to take with me.
they didn't charge me too much more for the service.
The drivers seat heater is dead too but that will go through on warranty next month when they've got the parts in and when the trimmer they use has some time.

All good. Harwoods in Crawley did a great job for the agreed 3+ fixed price. I know this because I asked to watch the technician service it and change the brake fluid. Clearly this was a very unusual request judging by the number of meercat faces that looked out at me from the workshop office, but I have complete peace of mind that they did the full job I was paying for. (In the past I've been left with the distinct impression that they were fleecing the warranty company for expensive parts that they hadn't in fact replaced, so I had a strong mistrust. Long story.) The technician was helpful, professional and skilled.

So, the 'B' service cost £299. The brake fluid change cost £55. Two new air filters (which aren't due until 90k miles but I decided I'd replace anyway myself) cost ~£24. A tip for the tech: £10. smile

I wish dealers would make it easier for customers to watch their workshop activities if they wish. If the dealer is honest and skilled, this would surely only help to forge stronger bonds of trust with customers. I think Audi were starting to offer a service that allowed customers to watch a technician work through the eyes of a camera on his head/chest. It's a good idea.

Update from me. The dealer honoured the £299 rate for my 5.0 XKR. Only extra was for a pair of wiper blades. The software update so the car would recognise the rear number plate bulb (I kid you not) was foc.

Great to read. Harwoods are my (very) local dealer, and I may use them for a service on my X350(R).
