BMW R 12000 RS
Discussion
I've just had one on demo from Lind in Norwich (Many thanks to the team at Lind.). I started the ride not wanting to like it. While I love twins and especially BMW twins, I thought it was lacking in power for the current market. I felt it should be 150bhp+ and also thought it was too heavy.
It's a lot better than I was expecting and is fun, smooth and quick below 100mph. It's handling is quicker than a bike of that weight should be and yet it's stable and planted. Although I was only out for just over and hour, it felt all day comfortable and the dynamic suspension was great on a range of different road surfaces from fast new smooth tarmac to some pretty bumpy Norfolk back roads. To me the engine modes seemed pretty pointless with dynamic being the only option that I was happy with. The low speed pick-up from off throttle to on throttle was just too slow in the other modes.
While I was almost converted, my order has instead gone on another K1300S. For me, the R1200RS does most of what the K1300S does, but not all of what it does. (The R1200RS won't be doing 150mph+ runs along German autobahns for example). However, the only thing the R1200RS has that the K1300S doesn't is the flat twin character (which is great!), but that's no where near enough make up for 50bhp less.

Are k1300S's still orderable? I thought production had just ceased?
My take on the R1200R (and RS). As someone who owned a late R1200R Classic...
I dont like the RS. to me it is a curious mix of state of the art (suspension, brakes, gizmos) and old (engine). And some bits really grated, like the powershift gearchange -- ok for 3rd, 4th 5th and 6th, but avoid anything to do with 2nd or first.
I can see the charm. But, for me, it doesnt have the coherence of the 2012 aircooled R1200R.

New ones are as easy to find as rocking horse st but I've managed to get one ordered that I'm assured will be fulfilled.
A new one for next year? Same colours as Mark's?K13s are still in production aren't they? If they're phasing them out with no replacement I'll have to get my order in.
