Will be used mainly to get to work and back and occasional weekend drives for chores and fun. UK holiday drives with the gf and 3 dogs and luggage about 1-2 times a year.

Both are high spec models of their range but 1 is cheaper/month and more practical, but is it really if mainly used to drive to work and back and to the pub and back.

Mini Countryman JCW All4 manual (4 yr lease) 1.6 petrol

Skoda Yeti Outdoor Laurin & Klement 2.0 diesel (2 yr lease)

Mini is about £130/month more to lease.

I know what I should go for but wanted some other views. I will only do about 6-7k miles/year

Thanks in advance.

Whilst the Countryman would be embarrassing to drive around in, the Skoda Yeti would be humiliating. On the plus side the Skoda would only be for 2 years, whereas the Mini would be for 4.

Are these really the best cars available to you? You seem to have a decent enough budget so I would have thought you could get something a little more fun.

If it has to be between these, I'd go for the Mini. It's petrol which will be better suited to your usage and is nicer to handle at gas stations; it's a more premium car - should be nicer inside; and it's just simply a more desirable package than the yeti which is truly hideous.

Public transport would be better than either of these.

Lots of nicer cars available cheaper than these.

That's your view, these are the 2 I am only interested in talking about

Public transport is not an option, my village has awful links and 4 miles from the nearest train station which doesnt have a direct link to where i work anyway and since i mentioned I have 3 dogs not sure why it was mentioned at all as an option.

The Yeti Outdoor in the Laurin and Klement spec is pretty cool i think (top of the range) so i would be far from humiliated driving it, neither would I be embarassed to drive a Countyman in John Cooper Works spec, would be loads of fun from the reviews I have read on the net.

Niether is a particularly interesting car, so on that basis I'd probaby go for the Yeti, as I expect that being tied to a lease for 2 years is a lot better than being stuck with one for 4 years. I've seen a few Yetis around, and they look nice enough...and £130/mth is a decent saving over the Mini too!

100% agreement with this - what will the Mini really offer, for all that extra cash, if the vehicle is just being used as a tool/means to an end?

I vote the Skoda.

Yeti's a bit meh, the JCW Countryman could be a hoot. Personally I'd be wary of using a lease car as a dog wagon.

Have you driven the Mini?

Of those two I would def choose the Yeti, half the lease time and so still in warranty the whole time and no MOT to concern yourself with.

The saving per annum of not far off £1500 would seal it for me.

What strange people inhabit PH.

The Yeti although knocking on a bit is still regarded as one of the best drives in the class and is very, very practical. Owners love them.

The mini is probably more fun but massively compromised in terms of practicality.

For your use case I'd have the yeti and £1500 a year in my back pocket thanks.

This^^^ every word of it.

Yeti is also compromised in my view with a boot with a rather small floor area, and the lack of a flat floor loading space.

We don't know what dogs. If 3 large dogs, say retrievers then neither would be suitable imvho, but if 3 toy breeds then can see the problem doesn't exist.

What sort of fascinates me is what was on the original list and discounted? Just being nosey really and trying to understand the logic.

What's also interesting is that a top of the range Yeti on a two year lease is so much cheaper than a Mini Countryman on a 4 year lease. Staggering.

I'd hate to rent euther of thise cars for a weeks holiday let alone 2 or 4 years!!

Op could just buy a reasonable old car that would be much less depressing.

As per previous poster I would find both cars humiliating to drive. Shocking selection.

I appreciate the views but since I am leasing then I dont need to be too precious and can afford to choose something different.I have 3 small/medium sized dogs.

I already have a reasonable old car but is costing me more and more to service and fix up. A new car on a lease would have the warranty and also being new then just the usual servicing costs.

Am going to make my decision by tuesday, am still not sure.

Yeti.

Cheaper, shorter lease term, beefier engine, more practical, less tacky.

How does the price of each compare to say, a CX-3 or even a "basic" CX-5 ?

Agree on the dog front - 3 dogs will mean protection or big bill at the end of the lease - GF shoud be OK though.

Another vote for Skoda, but I'd also considere a Scout as as others have said boot in the Yeti is small, even worse if opting for a spare wheel

Thanks.

Space would only be a concern when on holiday, so basically twice a year. The Yeti would suit as dogs would come on holiday and then to the pub and back on weekends, about 2 miles away. The back seats can be removed too on the Yeti but I am getting more concerned now about comments re damage by the dogs. With the best will in the world there is bound to be some scratches somewhere in the rear, less if I took the back seats out.

I dont really want to get hammered when I hand the car back, ie, maybe i should stick with my 07 Seat Toledo, then I dont need to be as precious since I own the car.

Getting serious doubts now about leasing
