Cars of your youth
Discussion
I have just watched wheeler dealers and the Alfasud and I so want to have one of those cars in my life again!
Many of your probably wanted a TVR back then but I didn't but loved two ultra rotten alfasuds in a way that I love my Chimaera today. Only 50 left! Mrs B and I watched it together and I think she is a bit worried about me going out to get one!
What cars did we have back in the day then?

My first restoration in 1992 when I was spanering vintage a classic cars for a living.
Started out as a rare Lichfield Green & Sebring White two tone 1960 948cc twin carb Triumph Herald saloon.
Much welding.
Followed by more welding as I set about grafting in the rear deck of a 1200 Herald convertible, finished off with a bare metal 2k repaint in Signal Red & Sebring White.
Hey presto, my very own 57 Chevy in miniature
Here I am taking it over Hardknott pass on an epic round UK adventure
Roof down, a pretty young girlfriend in the Triumph's passenger seat, and not a care in the world.
Those were the days

In 70,000 miles the only issues I had were an issue with the trip computer (temperature sensitive chips), which was repaired under warranty, and I had two aircon condensers holed by flying stones. As they replaced the second one I made up my own mesh guard, had it fitted in front of the condenser, and the dealer sent pics of it to Renault as they thought it was a great idea

Simon, that is awesome, especially in that colour.
Brings back memories for me.
My girlfriend's father used to run around in an Austin 1100. He was the deputy director of what is now Nottingham Trent University, and a magistrate.
I made it my mission to get him into something more suitable for a man of his status.
So I, aged 18, talked him into buying, in 1971, a V4 Ford Capri 2 litre GLX - gold with a black vinyl roof and black interior.
His wife was beside herself with pleasure - at last she could arrive at Masonic functions in style.....
Six months later I even persuaded him to let me service it for him. Much to my surprise he agreed. The joys of being 18.......no lack of self confidence.
As Peter may have told you, I'm still that 18 year old tt somewhere deep inside. The same 18 year old tt who enjoys a chilli and rice at 11 pm in a certain person's motor home at Castle Combe, drinks red wine with him until 1.30 am and then tries to start a track day at 8 am with the hang-over to end all hang-overs.

Mk3 Daytona Yellow two door Cortina, purchased for £50 with no ticket and a Guinness beer mat for a tax disc
Cut the sides out of the recently deceased washing machine in our flat share and welded them into the sills (mostly)
Gave it a light service, stuck it in for the test, got the ticket (just), forgot to buy the Tax, chucked some tents and three mates in the back and drove the 1,300cc 67hp Yellow Peril fireball to the Greek islands.
We lost the rear exhaust section before we even reached Calais so I wired it back in with an old coat hanger, but we lost it again in The Republic of San Marino, this time I lobed the thing in a skip and we continued noisily and giving my mates in the back seat carbon monoxide poisoning
Four mates in a £50 Tina on an epic drinking & shagging road trip around Europe, heaven!!!
