Fallen in love with these bikes. Are they custom builds based on an old model? Any info appreciated.

They look to be based on the R series to me. Love that look, I wouldn't mind one myself biggrin

Yep, based on old R-Series Beemers. Donor prices have rocketed in recent years due to popularity.

Kevils or Down and Out are two of the best known UK builders of such machines, but can recommend someone local if you're serious.

Those base bikes are 40ish years old but that's not a problem with the R series, plenty of spares and service available, and lots of help on the web if you want to do the servicing yourself. Some people have built bobbers with K series IL3 or 4 cylinder water-cooled FI engines from the 80s and 90s but they look wrong to me.

Or you could just buy the R9T which is an official model: http://www.bmw-motorrad.co.uk/uk/en/fascination/ni...

Have a look on thebikeshed.cc for more inspiration. In fact I'm pretty sure that top pic was from a bike shed vent.

Some of the new R9T customs coming out are exceptional. I've fallen in love with this: http://www.bikeexif.com/bmw-scrambler-2

That's f***ing lovely. Are there any official BMW Scrambler photos available yet?

That's awful. I like the ones in the OP though.

Not to my knowledge but after the success Ducati have had with theirs as well as the huge interest these R9T customs are generating, they must be working overtime to get it ready.
