I have a Golf 7, nothing special just a TDi but my insurance renewal is due at the end of the month.

Quotes are coming in around £300-350 fully comp protected etc.

I've only really tried the comparison sites and have yet to call VW's own insurance scheme.

Given it's a run of the mill Golf is there any point trying "specialist" insurers (Herts Insurance were mentioned) or am I likely to be wasting my time?

And of course if not, who should I be trying?

In a word, no.

I'm not sure if the Golf 7 Tdi has the front brake assist but the R does and it brings the insurance down, a lot!

I went with Aviva, got £75 cashback so only ended up paying £300. Which I was amazed with quite frankly!

I think what VW call "brake assist" isn't what you mean - but yes it has the radar assisted thing.

None of the comparison sites ask that but they all pick up the model from the reg number so I assume they know this.

Kind of confirms what I expected - I know it's a boggo Golf just hoped there may be some options as it still feels quite pricey as insurance goes.

Check out quidco, sometimes some decent cash back deals on there which might help.
