Evening folks,

Many of you will know I have a habit of breaking the studding in my bonnet hinges (another broken on the later part of the EuroTour after I'd donated my spare to Stuart and his V8S) so I'm getting a replacement from my mate who did the seat belt mod I organised last year.

So while I'm sorting that I thought I'd see if there's any interest in a group buy .

The studding is grade B7 steel (used in the gas and oil industry, but not necessarily Max proof!) and has held out well apart from my clipping kerbs etc. Each length of studding will be M12 x 130mm

Don't know prices yet as will depend on numbers so please add names to this list and number of pairs of studding needed - understand it will be price dependent so nothing committed at this point.

1. Scoobimax - 2 pairs

Cheers,

Max

You might want to think about going low tensile on these as they are more likely to bend than fail completely.

Another thing to consider, if there is room, is moving the big plate to the inside of the wooden board because this will shorten the length of unsupported studding and so reduce the risk of failure.

Just a thought thumbup

What Joe says. I have seen these stainless hinges and have been amazed at the length of the threaded bar being used to support a heavy bonnet, especially when the bar has been made of stainless. Look to shorten it as mush as possible and use low tensile material Max.

Have mine fitted that way and have seen several others so it will probably work on most cars. The original long bolt affair is quite poor design structurally.
Next thing for me will be the wide open mod, when I can get round to it.

M12 studding 1M in length £3.46 from B and Q useful to know if you snap one on the road. Just don't buy the cheapest hacksaw!

Also comes with a 1 year guarantee :-o

B&Q probably have a get-out clause if the studding was used by Max for his bonnet hinges wink

BUMP.

Just wondered if there's any more interest in this?

My mate is away on holiday at the moment but I'd like to get sorted as soon as he gets back - from what he said although I've not got exact costs they won't be expensive.

The one he supplied me to get my bonnet fixed for chatsworth was a bit on the tight side lengthwise so will get them as 140mm length.

Cheers,

Max
