Classic XK120s Good Time To Sell?
Discussion
Hi Guys
I rarely post (bit of a lurker) but I could do with a little advice and I'm not really a classic aficionado.
Is now a particularly good time to be selling an XK120 of do you think it's worth hanging onto for a while longer.
I'm looking to help my Dad sell his off to fund retirement/my sisters wedding/my brothers house problems but I'd obviously want to get the best money we can for him.
Also not a clue what the best avenue to go through to sell it would be.
Obviously a PH advert but does anyone know any decent dealers who would buy into stock?
Thanks in advance!

I have no Jag knowledge but there seems to be a growing opinion that the wider market is cooling but quite frankly who knows? I suggest you ignore advertised "asking" prices as advertised by dealers and private sellers, more often than not these are optimistic, it is easy to go back over auction results for the last 18 months or so and I would expect you will find a few comparables to steer you on value.
I attempted an email/PM but to answer here as well it's a 1952 XK120 Fixed Head Coupe.
In terms of condition it's A1 having been restored very recently - Really is a beautiful thing, I'd post a picture up if the internet wasn't so painfully slow at the moment

I have one or two 120's, and in my opinion i would hang on to yours for a minute, they dont seem to be doing that well value wise, i dont know why because i think they are are a fab looking car.
There'll be characters out there and on here that will want to have your pants down with it, so be aware, dont let dads pride and joy be given away.

Why have it restored and then sell it ? That's a sure way to lose money.
There are plenty of XK120's for sale on Car and Classic and similar websites.
Take a look at the asking prices, compare the condition to your own car and pitch it somewhere in that region.
Why not post some pictures on this thread so that we can have a better idea of the condition ?

Compared to 300SL and esp. 190SL I find the XKs very underrated,
as they have also got the look, heritage (quite) and power.
I can´t believe and find it is a joke, that 190 SLs (as nice as they are)
are on level with XKs pricewise.
As long as SL prices are climbing, XKs will (must) also, I guess.

Thanks for all the advice guys, we're drafting an advert as we speak and exploring the values that some have gone for at previous auctions and advertisements.
I realise restoring the then selling straight away you're always going to be losing something, but you have to play the hand that life deals, and unfortunately with everything that's going on this year/next year we can't really afford to keep hold of the fixed head much longer.
I'll post some pics up as well shortly to keep everyone entertained
