Our 8 year old Dyson DC14 Animal went pop earlier - looks like the motor has burnt out. I can probably replace it, but it has seen slightly better days.

Any recommendations for stellar black hair removal vacuum performance from fellow hairy dog owners?

This gets asked regularly on the dog forum I visit laugh

Standard recommendations seem to be Dyson, Miele and Henry. Personally, I have a Dyson but my dogs have short hair and don't moult too much fortunately. Having said that, I think my ancient Dyson is much better than the newer one we also have.

As stated - a regular topic.

Miele are quality but small capacity bags when you have lots of hair to pick up. Numatic have capacity but in my opinion are not as good at picking up.
So for me it's still Dyson. I would still look at repairing your old one - same model that I have fixed and if I have done it anyone can.
Motor off eBay and some star screwdrivers - watch the YouTube video and offer a swear words on the way - sorted.

Depends on how much you want to spend

We have 2 x dogs and 2 x cats, laminate downstairs and carpet upstairs. Dogs are short hair and one doesn't malt

Had a Miele, was good, but loads of bits broke off and the on/off switch had to be jammed on. In the end it broke after 4 years of hard abuse. Went to buy another and same level model was nearly £250, which was a bit much considering all the bits that broke on ours.

Bought a Henry pet version for about £115. Propper no nonsense and simple. The attachments aren't as big or good as the Miele, but it has more capacity, sturdier and a really bloody long lead! I like it and nothing to really break on it. TBH even if I had more money to spend I would probably just stick with the Henry in future

We had a similar experience. Bought a Miele because it was supposed to be well made and stuff kept breaking. The pedal to put it from upright mode to floor broke off.

When we bought it there was an option to extend the 2 year warranty for to 10 years for £30. They've fixed all the bits that have broken off free.

Note that the Miele Cat & Dog blocks up in the angled pipe, and is a PITA to clear. Brilliant thinking :sigh:

Well, job done. No surplus parts, proof will be in the dog hair lifting ability and whether it goes pop again after a few uses....
