Is it now illegal for an 18 year old man and his 17 year old wife to smoke in a car when travelling together?
As I read it, the 17 year old can smoke when travelling alone, but not when travelling with the 18 year old.

You can't buy cigarettes until you're 18 now anyway, in theory.

In your scenario, it would be the other way around. the 18 year old could smoke while alone, but not with his/her 17 year old wife/husband in the car.

If the 17 year old smokes, it's immaterial for the purposes of this law, because the passenger is not under 18.

Yes, if they are travelling together and they both smoke, if he is 18 and she is 17, then she has to drive if they both want to smoke. If he drives, only she can smoke.

If they really want to protect children, then they'd be better enforcing the law on child seats and booster cushions. So many people these days just can't be bothered using them - especially booster seats. I know of one couple who thought that, because they had a BMW 1 series and the kids sat in the back, that they didn't need them! And how many kids do you see with white van man, sitting in a Transit with no protection other than an adult belt!

Honestly, for the sake of £20 - or 2 packets of fags, they'd rather see their kids seriously maimed, if not killed.

My rant for today!

Also said married couple if setting up a home together could not go out and buy knives and forks until they are 25.

They can't legally buy them in England and Wales under the age of 18. The 'challenge 25' thing is not law. You can buy knives if you're under the age of 25, but over 18.

It always makes me laugh that I could have sex with a 16 year old, see them naked and what not, but not film it until they are 18.

Are you sure?

I've only seen what's been on the TV but they are saying a passenger can be prosecuted for smoking. So he would get done even if she was driving or does the legislation state the minor has to be a passenger?

You may be right.

I'm sure the police will have no interest in teenagers, but will just be on the lookout for parents smoking with young kids in the car. Assuming the police have some common sense. May be a wild assumption.

BBC news have been saying that a 17 year old can smoke, but only if travelling alone.
Have to be 18 to buy cigs, and it's now illegal to buy cigs for an under 18, but is there actually a legal age for smoking?

Of more 'fun' will be when the first passerby gets panned by a driver who they have 'reminded them of the law' whilst waiting at traffic lights.

Not to mention the almost sexual frenzie that an anti smoking dashcam wheelding MLM will whip themseleves into when overtaken at 80+ by someone with a cigarette in their hand and a child in the back...

And yet it is legal to smoke with a baby in the womb. Far more likely to have a life long effect on the child.
Human rights innit.

To open a can of worms, it's legal to murder a baby in the womb.

A lawful termination neither involves murder nor a baby

legal murder is an impossible concept
