Smoke grenades, any advice?
Discussion
The parkrun that I am involved in is coming up for it's first birthday, and I have been tasked with providing a bit of entertainment at the start and thought about getting a few smoke grenades to put about the start as the runners set off.
I have seen some called Enola Gaye, any pointers on using these?
Also if this is a crazy idea someone please let me know!!

I was going to suggest you buy some l83a1 smoke grenades but it seems they might not be able to be purchased any more, I used my last ones earlier this year otherwise i would have helped out.
Cheers Silent was thinking about these http://www.airsoftworld.net/enola-gaye-ring-pull-c...Organise a zombie run - http://thejungleni.com/Events/CharityZombieRun.asp...
We use Enola Gaye stuff at milsims, dead easy to use with either the ring pull or the striker head.
Just pull the ring and throw it into the general area you want to have smoke!
Friction type pyro is dead easy to use safely, just think of them as huge matches.
There are some rules covering different coloured smoke being used near bodies of water so check up on them before you use them (I think you can't use red near water)

When I was at school myself and a couple of friends acquired some Potassium Nitrate. I had read that if you mixed this with sugar and gently heated it in a saucepan it would make a smoke bomb. It did - a very effective one, so much so that my Dad thought the house was on fire.
The next day I went round to a friend house to tell him the recipe. We decided to cook it up in his kitchen. Unfortunately the sugar boiled over, caught alight and started a fire in the kitchen. I wasn't welcome round there after that....

Enola Gaye stuff is good, I have been using it for years. By a strange coincidence I was at their place just yesterday.
Thanks Derek! I might just set them off at the finish, you can see the finish for a good way away so it will have a good effect.I just need some safe pyrotechnics now for the start.

For smoke, lava and some flames... A tin can of with Potassium Chlorate at the bottom covered by layer of sugar. Pour in sulphuric acid and wonder at the smoke, the lava, the small flames.
Repeat the trick a few months later, forgetting the order of chemical and sugar, pour in the acid and run around screaming as the thing blows up in your face...

To start the race with a bang, another option is some .22 calibre bullets and some model aeroplane glue.
Cover the bullets in the glue, set fire to them and stand well back.
Someone may have done this in a friend's back garden when he was 16.
It was a bit like popcorn but more metally.
You may want to tell the runners to go fast.
