As the title says. My assumption is that it had been visiting Brize? Anyone else see it?

I thought it was quite an unusual spot for the UK! The only time I've seen them before (other than air shows) was a Luftwaffe AC doing circuits at RAF St Athan when I was on ATC Summer Camp in about 1995.

French Transalls used to make regular visits into Ireland in the 70s.

Lots of talk on the Brize Norton Spotters Group on Facebook, it's been in and out for the last couple of days apparently.

I flew back from Sarajevo to Germany in one, seemed to take about a week. Bloody horrid thing.

There was a German C-160 on the tarmac at Glasgow International Airport when I arrived from Amsterdam, early on Thursday afternoon. Guessing it was the same one?

I'm curious about British engines in a Franco-German project, but presumably neither country had a decent turboprop alternative?

Correct. At the time (early 1960) the Tyne was one of the most powerful turboprops around and was in production for aircraft like the Vickers Vanguard and Canadair CL-44 - so was a relatively low risk option.

There are French Transalls in the country at the moment with a bunch of French Pumas and Gazelles and a shed load of troops for a joint exercise in East Anglia.

That was probably what I heard flying over my area of Ipswich today around 11:00 am a very low drone which went on for ages. There were a few formations of helicopters flying around on Sunday, I think there's an exercise on at Sizewell, as mentioned.

I don't suppose there's any way of finding out if it was one, my arcane flightradar24 skills don't extend to working out the time lapse feature...

They were playing over at Woodbridge before going up to Thetford. They also had RAF Chinnooks a Hercules and a RAF Puma with them.
