So after almost 3 years of boring but comfy Range Rover motoring I have now got myself a fun coupe. After a few months of looking at different options I picked up the car on Saturday.

I was looking at the E92 M3 coupe with the competition pack for some time and was dead set on getting one, a santorini blue one. This proved hard to source (within the budget I had) I also looked at RS5's and C63's. Then I got into the thought of a R35 GTR but I couldnt get insurance for under £3500. I'm 29 with no experience driving a 'fast' car. I was also scared off with the stories of gearbox issues, regular and servicing with high costs.

So the end result was the purchase of a 1 owner, 22k mile C63 AMG coupe. It was love at first sight! I looked at 3 different cars from various garages in different colors. This is the car I bought....

I'm based in East Yorkshire, is there any meets or events happening any time soon? October or November?

Nice car OP - I envy the sound you get each morning.

I'm surprised at the cost of the insurance on the R35 though. If I was to buy one now, it'd cost £1,800 a year and I'm only 22.

Thanks, the sound was a major part of the sell of this car for me. Cold first start of the day is divine.

Very nice, similar to another that was posted the other day but that was black with the diamond cut wheels.

What was the price difference between this and the M3 you were after? I'm an M3 man myself and would love an E90 but have driven a mates C63 a lot and do love the luxury, noise and looks.

I was dead set on the M3, I wanted the competition pack and specifically in Santorini blue. The DCT gearbox has great reviews. The prices of the cars that where up for sale ranged from £35-40k. I wanted a car under 30k miles. Not many Santorini blue cars come up for sale especially with the competition pack.

The RS5 just didn't cut if for me, the quattro is very appealing for all season round driving compared to the rear wheel drive cars. But looks wise I felt it didn't look much different to a decent spec A5 black edition.

The C63 in person stood out massively to me, not too garish but enough small details to make it special. To drive it's amazing, the sound is out of this world. In comfort mode its easily manageable and not too loud. Sports and Sports + is a whole different story. I've only had 2 days with the car before going back away with work so till getting used to it. I've not played with the paddle shift manual gear changes much but looking forward to having some practice.

The R35 GTR insurance issues was down to the fact I don't have experience with high power cars previously. Cars I've owned prior to this are; Range rover sport diesel, BMW X5 diesel, Audi TT 225 and a Pug 206 1.1. Not only was the insurance quotes high but the 6 monthly servicing schedule and not living near either SVM or Litchfeild for servicing was daunting.

I'm hoping there are some events or meets I can attend in the near future and also plan to do a European road trip in the summer 2016.

Wow, must feel rapid!

Is it that much louder in Sport etc? I know the exhaust doesn't have any valves etc but I guess it pops more on overrun etc.

Yes it feels very fast, I have only done approx 200 miles in the car since owning it due to going back to work away.

It's much louder and sounds better, probably due to the throttle response and yes it pops and burbles in S and S+. The downshifts, even in auto when slowing down are great!
Looking forward to getting to grips with the paddle shift paddles.
