Since last November my S2000 has been recovered by the RAC 4 Times!

1. Engine Caught Fire

2. Replacement MAP sensor went faulty!

3. number two Coil pack gave up.

4. Starter motor sensor wire came off, he couldn't get it back on!

Then while i was away in Austria 3 weeks ago, the Head Gasket let go!

So was being recovered back home, thanks to a great breakdown policy (have learnt not to scrimp on these things wink

And now have an email telling me that the recovery lorry has broken down! and will be delayed.

So am thinking she cursed! i imagine its not normal for a Honda to breakdown this much!!

But I'm getting cracking value for money from the RAC etc.

So who has the most breakdown recoveries in a year?

so called

Due to family stress, I spent a week in a German hospital this year with chest pains.
Turned out to be hyper-tension..............OK, sorry,
I drive a TVR so very rarely break down.
We did have a problem in SoFrance in 2011 but the ADAC shipped her back to the UK and my mate the TVR at TorqueRVT sorted that out.
-FYI Engine Management Computer died-

Before that in 2009 I crashed my previous Tuscan on the Autobahn and the ADAC shipped her home for repair.
Before that, in 2007 the newly rebuilt speedsix Tuscan engine developed a problem and again the wonderful ADAC shipped her back for warranted repair and that was only 2 weeks after joining their awesome club.

The worst car I ever had was a Rover 820 which had an EMU and a head gasket die, both times in Switzerland. Cost me a fortune.
The previous 820 had been great until she was killed on the M25 in a multi-car pile up.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Very frustrating.
Yes, surprised hearing about Honda problems but, as an example of reality over expectations, I am a frequent driver on the continent where the most common car at the side of the Autobahn, Autoroute etc., is a Merc and the one headlight eyed car coming at me will invariably be a BMW, I'm also not surprised.

Hope things improve.

My brand new Volvo S40 was recovered to the dealers 4 times in the first two months. Then another twice during the next 6 months. After that, it was easier just to park it outside their premises and walk the rest of the way to work (fortunately a mere 250 yards)

Over the past 5 years

I left my sidelights on and came back to a flat battery. Had to call the breakdown.

Last week I had my 1st ever puncture and had a slow drive to the garage.

Had a 996 for 8 months or so and it was on a recovery truck three times, the first being before I even had it in my possession!

My thread has arrived biggrin

During the last four years, two head gasket failures, one split radiator, multiple oil leaks, one drive shaft replaced, various suspension bits and pieces replaced including engine mounts, probably much more that I can't remember. Left me stranded 8 times, and not even got roadside assistance as such in Sweden.

Luckily parts are available easily and on the (relative) cheap and you soon learn to fix most problems yourself.

The car? A Trabant? No, a Volvo.

Certainly not me. The last breakdown I had was about eight or nine years ago and that was just a tyre failure but I had a cast iron stove in the boot so I couldn't get at the spare.

My disco managed 4 breakdowns. It could have achieved greater things but I only gave it 6 months.

Coming up to 10 years of motoring and I've only ever broken down once. About 6 years ago, in a stop-gap car which had elusive battery problems. I say elusive because in the short time I owned it I had replaced the battery and alternator and still didn't solve the drain on the battery!

The car was a VW polo - coming from a string of French cars which never let me down I think that's not bad!

Twice this year, Focus hire care that lost its gears, it was about 6 months old and TBH I thought it was a pile of st, it had lost everything that made my old MK1 Focus a truly great car along the way.

The Kia Cee'd that replaced my hire Focus, it was ran into, it was also a much better car than the Focus.

I'm not sure it's really fair to class that as a breakdown. hehe

It wasn't TBF, but it was something that left me stranded on the side of the road, the most expensive breakdown I had was a Nissan 200SX, I started it up on the works car park and it ran for 30 seconds before the two inlet valves on number three cylinder snapped off and destroyed the piston, the head and the block, that was also a seriously st car.

The Kia, never been a fan until that one, I'd buy it new if I was in the market for a Focus sized hatch.

Excluding punctures / blowouts, in 25 years of motoring, I've never been stranded or unable to continue my journey due to a mechanical issue.

I don't know whether that's just plain lucky, or good car choice. Who knows?! hehe

My old works van a Citroen berlingo broke down 11 times in 8 months, they were just the times the aa had to come out. If you include me getting it going on my own it broke down approx 30 times

My Cosworth was broken for more than 50% of the 8 years I owned it.

AA called 3 times, once for a loose hub which I tightened myself and continued ,so cancelled, transmission blow

up,recovered from Devon to Surrey ,on Christmas day and breakdown in Dover, fuelpump issues,he got it going

to drive it home.

Went on a shorter holiday the next day in a dull but reliable Fiesta instead.

Had a Golf GTi. Broke four times in two and a half months. I no longer own a Golf GTi.
Throttle body, coolant temp sensor and thermostat first time,
Water pump failure next time around,
Then a nail in tyre (didn't need to call out recovery but put a damper on things)
Then the steering rack failed. That was the final nail in the coffin.

The car only once tried to leave me stranded, and that was after I had flattened the battery trying to keep my beers cold and not checking when jump starting from a vauxhall - red is negative, black is pos...

Apart from that, my Fiesta required £300 a month, on average, for the last 2 years of its life at a good priced indy. Complete brakes, suspension, clutch, they all took their turns. Tinworm got the car in the end, still on original battery.
