We are having some mid height ladder units and want to put on some worktop over it. Since that worktop won't actually be used for cooking / preparing we thought it would be an absolute waste to buy kitchen worktop for it.

But the kitchen island needs to have a proper worktop on it.

So is there any place I can buy both a kitchen worktop as well as some veneered wood where both look. Or does any place sell veneered work tops?

Kitchen worktop is normally a laminate/Formica anyway so not real wood? Unless you are putting solid timber tops on?

Be aware if using a laminate top on a higher unit - the undersides are not finished to full depth so you will probably see the join when looking up, or have a minimal overhang.

Most joinery manufacturers could make you a veneered top but I think you would be shocked at the price.

Another option is to buy an additional appliance end cladding panel and use that - it will probably only be 19mm thick but colour matched to the units will look quite good.

I realised that getting the 'fake' wood fabricated would cost more than buying one pre-made. Hence the question. And we are going for a solid wood worktop on the island.

Our solid wood from worktop express wasn't significantly more than laminate. I think you'll have No end of problems faking it, I'd just buy the extra wood.

Where did you buy it from? I see they sell via many avenues.

I've just had some (full stave) Oak worktops delivered from these chaps http://www.woodworktops.com/worktops-gallery.html and I'd highly recommend them thumbup
