iPod cable - does it charge? V8V

I've got the iPod cable in my MY2008 V8V. Plugged in an old iPod touch I have, it worked great but didn't charge it. That will be a right pain.

Is this just how it is or just some Apple products? I had the same lead in my Jag XF and it used to charge my iPod Nano

I have a connection in my 09 XFR which plays from I phone, but does not charge it. Which is both good and bloody annoying at the same time.

I know, cool story etc.... Ah well.
