Supertruck tour of Iceland 2015
Discussion
Me and a good friend of mine were bored a couple of weeks ago so we went online and booked flights to Iceland last minute and booked a truck from Arctic Trucks.
We asked them to organise a guide for us. Enter Jonni who met us, as we left the airport laden with beer from the duty free.
So we were in Iceland, we had a guide, we had beer and we had a super truck. We didnt have a plan and told Jonni, "We dont want to do the tourist thing, we want to see Iceland.
So began a four day trek through Iceland's remotest areas, staying in huts and living out of a cool box, portable BBQ and 2 crates of beer. Along the way we saw the North Coast, became friends over a few beers on a beach at 2am with Marco, a photographer from Lichtenstein, got to know Jonni and had some great laughs. We saw rock, lava sand, thick snow, rain, sunshine, mud, many, many rivers, mountains and much more.
Been back 4 days and now planning a trip across their biggest glacier with Jonni on Snowmobiles ASAP.
An amazing place, fantastic people and the Super Truck wasnt phased by any terrain.

I missed the snowmobile bit earlier, definitely do that! We did a tame little follow the leader run and even that was awesome fun.
If you ever wind up coming down to NZ Leg send me a message and I can show you around our little garage and collection.
Bit of a trek mate but if I do, I will. By the way, my 1930 Model A is from NZ....If you ever wind up coming down to NZ Leg send me a message and I can show you around our little garage and collection.

Looks like you had a great time. We love Iceland and spend a fair bit of time there. Our method of snowmobiling is 2 planks of wood up to bed of the pickup, gun the throttle and hope we don't drive through the cab, then just drive to the glacier. Never done a guided tour always just headed out into the wilderness, although it helps having an Icelandic wife and therefore access to the family's toys. The Ford 350 Superduty makes the 7 seat Isuzu Trooper looks rather small.
Leg, if you're heading back to Iceland definitely try to either see or have a go at Formula Off-Road - 1,600 BHP cars going up near vertical cliffs. It's very much a summer sport to watch, but you can rent a car to have a passenger ride throughout the year.
