Hi guys, I would really like to buy a classic car but I'm not sure which one? I want it to stand out and look cool and my price range is about 15k tops! I'm 22 so chapter insurance would be nice, but I can stretch a bit smile
I used to own a Volvo p1800 as my daily driver but had to sell, so now I'm looking for something new!

Any ideas?

A Rover P5B Coupe, £15k will get you a beauty. Not sure about the insurance though for a young 'un with a 3.5 V8... worth a punt though.

£15k is not cheap and will get you something awesome, take your time.
Lotus Elan+2 5s with webasto would be pretty awesome.

Im 23 and have a MGB GT, perhaps an obvious choice, but insurance isn't too bad, they're not a bad all round car and they're not too expensive, both to buy and for parts.

Insurance is an issue being under 25, even for an MG insurance renewal time has been a headache at times, especially recently as insurers gave really tightened things up. I found going via the owners club helped, but overall id suggest sticking with something more mainstream.

Perhaps the biggest question is what will you be using it for? Daily driver? Bit of fun at the weekends?

Why not get another P1800? Brilliant cars and effortlessly cool.
You could maybe just stretch to a Citroen DS, which as we all know, is the most stylish ever made.
You'd get a lovely Volvo Amazon.
Fiat 130 for boxy, Mafia style presence.
Alfa 105 Coupe for the prettiness and revvy engines.
Lancia Fulvia.
Series 1 XJ6.
Saab 99 turbo
Datsun 240Z
Renault Alpine A110
BMW 2002tii
MGA
...a few random cars that I think are desirable for that budget.

Corvette Stingray? Reanault Alpine A310? Porsche 928? Lotus Elan +2? Datsun 240Z? Lotus Esprit?

All those would turn my head!

Maserati Ghibli, cheaper to buy and may leave you some extra to cover the insurance:- http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C640047

Or:- Opal GT as they certainly qualify as a 'headturner' and should be cheapish to insure
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C596209

Or:- BMW's 635i as they are just lovely...

Or:- Lotus Esprit, an early one for classic car insurance status, get one before they get priced out of the market.

Daimler 250 - would expect these to appreciate a bit given the differential against the MK2

I'm 19 and have an MGB GT and I find insurance hilariously cheap, it ends up being about half of what I pay to insure my 1.4 Polo, go figure biggrin

There's a tidy Elan Plus 2 at a dealer on Ebay for £11k-ish. That's not too bad - I got £13k for mine nearly a year ago.

They are a bit small, but quite a fun, light (800ish kg) thing - and no rust to worry about really (except in chassis - but not generally an issue).

Depends whether you want small and chuckable or larger and more of a cruiser really.

Tell me more! driving

Pricewise its not bad, around £300 with an agreed value, but quite a few insurers, both classic and normal, wouldn't quote due to age, or gave me something way into 4 figures! yikes

I bought this when I was 23.

Steering clear of predictable Mustangs and Camaros you could get something American well in budget.

"Hilariously cheap" to me is anything under 4 figures really, being a 19 year old petrol head involves getting hopeful quotes for all sorts of cars, and having very few options that aren't close to £2K. frown

My insurance costs me about £500 for the MG, that's with 1 year experience and 1 year NCB, with limited mileage and no agreed value. It probably sounds expensive to everybody else but before that I had never had a quote for under £1K, so man maths makes it a no brainer hehe I'm insured with Flux Direct.

(Seems like a good excuse for a picture driving )
