I know, sorry for mentioning the P word, but is anyone tracking these currently? Are they up, down or stable?

I was looking last year and RHDs started around £80k, they seem to be well up on that now. £95-100k.

Would love one but not sure I could live with the box and the width of the thing... Unusable on country roads and it's not like we have much else in this country to enjoy cars on..

To be honest one of the main reasons I didn't buy one back in the day was Chris Harris long term report.

Then if it's a question of money.. I agree few V12 will be left in the world and F12 is double the price.. I think the perfect car is a 575m manual. But good luck finding one even in RHD.

I owned one for a year. A great car yes, but quite heavy, not very nimble (mine had FHP)and really not the holy grail that everyone makes it out to be. I certainly did not miss mine when it went and don't feel the premium they command is justified over a 550.

599 was a big step forward, F12 is a huge leap forward over both and really is the best Ferrari of the last few years. I came within a whisker of replacing the 575 with a 599, but got put off when I saw over £14k of bills in regular maintenance in 1 year on a car which didn't have huge mileage. Digging deeper, it was primarily small electrical gremlins but added up to a huge cost for a car out of warranty.

CGT - interesting.
yes I wouldn't fancy that
my 360s electrics touch wood are ok but 10 year old + Ferrari + Italian know how electronics makes me nervous enough. Add in 2007ish technology where things got a whole lot more complicated and it makes me very worried!

for sure the prices have spiked and I think its set to stay at this level. I was contemplating a Euro car but they have spiked also and Im not sure I fancy the added bills.
the noise and the interior was a big step on for me in comparison to the 550 though. I grant you its a heavy and wide car though.

Had a 599 for a few years. Great presence and when you find a suitably wide and quiet road the performance is fantastic, but that's less than 5% of the time. For long european road trips the luggage space was really quite rubbish- I found and do find that I could fit as much stuff in my 430 spider and now my 458 spider. The car turned into a headache in the end as simply the build quality wasn't up to scratch. Could just have been unlucky, but by the end I was happy to part company with it. Electrical gremlins meant the car spent an interminable amount of time (and money) in servicing to try and fix the same problems over and over again (many magically just as the extended warranty period ended). The build quality, fit and finish of the Ferraris starting from the 458 is a lot higher in my opinion. I would not buy a used 599 without a pretty comprehensive aftersales warranty after my experience if I had a spare 100k.

We've already got a 575 (F1 sadly, finding a manual is neigh on impossible these days) and a nice 599 just came up over here and the buying guide got me thinking about them. Was just wondering which way the prices were going to for now as I have always liked the shape. Think I might wait for the bottom of F12 prices though as I think they are even prettier. Not sure when that will be though.

Posted this is the buying guide in response to someone wanting a bigger fuel tank....

The fuel tank is 105 litres which I find big enough... especially when filling in a busy petrol station as can take a while...

Re running costs I have done c14,000 miles in mine and been offered more than I paid for it which is better then the M3 I had as that lost £20,000 in less miles... Servicing is c£975 at a main dealer and the extra things I have had done as this is a keeper such as changing the gearbox oil and some other elective jobs have come in at around £1000 per year. Insurance in London is £1100 per year.

My ball joints were done under warranty at c20,000 miles, there are apparently "better" after market ones which last longer, however mine are Ferrari's "new / improved" ones :-)

Apart from that they are great cars that can swallow 2 weeks worth of luggage for a European trip and still offer some "pace" when needed.

PS: I have tried the F12 and bought F12 and my initials before I tried the car as assumed I would be changing to the F12, however haven't warmed to it in the same way... odd.

Just bizarre that everyone bangs on about size and needed wide open roafs. Sorry but that is b.....x.
California is 2 inches slimmer. McLaren 570/650 is about 4 inches wider. It feels larger because the bonnet is maybe more visible, but too big, it isn't compared with equally fast/powerful machinery..
I loved my 599 and regret the day I sold it. To replace would cost £20/30k more in last 4 months

I agree re size, had a few moments of concern in 13th century Tuscan hill top towns, but still managed to get around and everywhere else I don't notice it, smaller than lots out there.

And the rest! There is a RHD high-miler on PH for £105k, after that, you're really looking at £115k+.

I actually think there are plenty of people that will - or at least aspire to - buy 599s at £120-130k...but maybe I'm biased, as I'm one of them! Still, they look like fair value to me; it's got a de-tuned Enzo engine, a sumptuous and classy interior and is essentially a lot of car for the money. And its big brother the 599 GTO is sky-rocketing towards £1 million in right-hand drive, which may or may not drag the standard car upwards. Who knows? What is undeniable is that there are far inferior cars, not especially rare, going for a lot more money. All the normal rules for car values, right across the board, seem to have gone out the window.

It's certainly a lot of car for the money, but your point re car values going out the window is the key point. There is no doubt that we are in an asset bubble and anyone who doesn't see this is in denial. No one knows what the future holds, but short to medium term guessing which way pricing will go is a very imprecise science. Buy because you want to, not because it sounds like a good 'investment'. As the saying goes - only dead fish go with the flow...
