So the wife had some young girl steam into the back of her while sitting at a ped crossing this morning, second time shes done this apparently rolleyes. Reading advice on here its best to go straight to her insurers rather than through ours. The girl gave us all her details but 'couldnt remember' who she was insured with. Is there a way of finding out incase this starts becoming 'one of those' cases where she suddenly denies everything and doesnt play ball anymore frown

And no..there is no whip lash or any other nonsense, I just want my car repaired properly, quickly and with as little grief as possible . Naturally I will inform our insurance of the incident but wont be making a claim through them.

Thanks

Your insurers will have the tools to find the insurer when you ring them up. Might be fun trying to explain that while you don't want to use them to make a claim, you absolutely would like to use them to find out who to call, but should be possible.

so the game plan has changed already...

Rang the number she gave us and it turns out to be the local Tarmacadam company her father owns. This should be fun..rolleyes

Straight to your insurers then. Given you will be informing them about the incident, they will do what they do for next years premium anyway, so you might as well make them work for it biggrin

Avoid their credit hire referral, and you are going to be fine.

This. It's what you pay them for.

Hopefully Mrs Fastbikes has a smartphone and took some pictures at the scene before moving anything

sadly not in situ as it was in the middle of the town centre. She has pics of both cars at road side with black paint from our rear bumper all over the front of her white car, and visa versa with corresponding damage to both cars. Given it was a town centre im sure we could track down CCTV should it get that far.

Awaiting a call back from the father. I will report back smile

Almost certainly.
All the more reason to ring the insurers now as you can do the holding hands in the air and saying "Nowt to do with me now guv, insurance job init, sure that they will be in touch with each other, that's what we pay our insurance for isn't it?"

If they aren't playing ball, set yourself a deadline and either call your insurer or a claims management company to get the ball rolling.

If you are fully comp, no reason not to call your insurer really.

For a small fee AskMID will give you details of the third party insurer so that you may contact them directly should you wish to.

AskMID have a new service - http://stayinsured.askmid.com/roadside.html - which was created specifically for this sort of situation. Provides the other party's insurance details free of charge.

However, it only works from a smartphone, not a PC and, if you're lucky like me, sends you an email with the other party's insurance details at least 9 times over a 5 month period after using it!

Call your insurance co and let them sort it, it's what you pay them for.
You are not claiming off your insurance, you're claiming off theirs just getting your insurance to do the legwork.

Why do people even contemplate not calling the insurance in this situation?

Thank you for the replies chaps, especially for that link which worked a treat thumbup

Ive been at work so not had much time to sort this, I phoned and got a price on a new bumper skin...£830 unpainted. So at a guess its going to be around £1200 painted and fitted, no doubt he will have a 'mate' who can do it for £3.50 and a Twix.

To be fair the damage is limited to a rear bumper skin and no more so its no huge disaster, I would just prefer a smooth easy repair. The car is coming back as insured and i now have all the details which is dead handy.

Many thanks for the advise so far.

Whether you utilise your/your wife's insurers or not they will still have to be informed of this shunt come renewal so you might as well inform them now.

So in conclusion all is well.

The dad phoned me last night saying he had not seen the daughters car yet and depending on damage to both cars he would rather pay cash if possible. Qoutes came in at £1700 ish for our car and im guessing similar again for his daughters (if not more).

They called back today saying the damage is worse than he expected and would pass our details on to his insurer. Sure enough an hour later I get a text from his insure with the usual 'We sorry to hear you were involved in an accident with our client, we will get you back on the road and allocate a claims advisor..etc etc'.

So now its going through his insurers I wont have to fork out any excees and wont take a hit on my NCB while the two companies fight it out. They have told thier insurers what happened and they are at fault. Looks like a nice simple claim to proceed with and I can inform our insurers about the incident but not put a claim in.

Thank you all for you time and advice.

Regards
Elton

It will impact your no claims bonus until it is settled if you declare it now.

But you won't pay your excess and if sorted prior to renewal it won't affect your ncd when it matters.

It won't impact his NCD if he tells his insurers for information purposes only. They won't reduce his NCD if they haven't made any outlay on his policy for the term.

I think it will if liability is not accepted immediately by the third party.

In the circumstances stated I can't see how that could happen but if the 3rd party state the accident wasn't as portrayed in the OP and dispute liability then they will step back bonus until sorted, whether reported "for information purposes only" or not.
