The Range Rover Evoque Convertible goes on sale in 2016.

Personally I think they'll sell in droves and herald another vehicle niche that others will look to populate but I'm not comfortable with the idea at all much as I like the Evoque.

What do others think?

First I've heard of this niche development, however I can imagine that it will find a wide audience.

I don't think that the concept is that hard to understand, given the popularity of more utilitarian Defender, Frontera, Suzuki, Wrangler vehicles, however it will be interesting to see the social groups that leap to be at the front of the queue.

I honestly see no connection with the Evoque to the likes of a Defender, Wrangle or even Vitara.

A convertible Evoque is no different in principle to an Audi A3 or BMW 1 Series convertible. It's just a unibody car, the Evoque just happens to be a little taller, with marginally more ground clearance and optional front wheel drive biased AWD system. It is not really an off roader.

Good - if it keeps jobs and manufacturing in this country, I hope that they find a lot more niches.

Nissan seems to be ahead of the game with niche vehicles lately (Qashqai and Juke for example) - behold the Murano Crosscabriolet. Saw a few last time I was in Canada and the states.

It really is an odd looking thing.
