Just bought an 11 plate X1 xdrive 2.0d, with 87k on the clock. Short test drive around town , seemed to be OK. Mrs Mondeoman picked it up today and complained about some noise. Took it out myself tonight and sure enough the front end is whining like a bh, worse on deceleration, but definitely not nice.

Had a quick Google and can't find too much about it being common, just wondered if anyone else had experience of anything similar. Be a shame to reject the car, but its needed for business, can't afford to have it off the road (nor an expensive repair).

The only whining mine makes is from passengers complaining about the rock hard ride and lack of rear leg room. Send it back!

You didn't order it on run flats did you? You fool!! wink

Seriously, on proper tyres it is wonderfully comfortable.

Could this be the first (used car) test of the new consumer rights act right to refund clause?

It was second hand so no choice. But my winters are normal so at least my spine looks forward to that time of year.

It's not normal that's for sure

Could be a number of things

Out of shape tyre,
Run flat tyre that has been run flat or is flat
Wheel bearing (most likely)
Differential
Arch liner touching a tyre or such like.

Differential is mags money and arch loner could indicate an accident. Other things are easy to fix, probable on a. Car with that mileage and not expensive to fox

Car itself is straight and clean, I'd guess at front different or wheel bearing. Dealer has agreed for it to be inspected locally, see what happens when I can get that organised.
