The now derelict BMW HQ in Bracknell where an excellent SS was held - what seems to me - not so long ago.

I didn't know that they had left it! A shame, another piece of history gone.

I voted for a classic Mini with a humungous great engine in it that the bonnet was fitted round.

It's one of the finest bits of sheet metal working I've ever seen. You can tell when a job hasn't been done to a budget or against the clock. Exquisite.

Marvellous, thanks.

I just know that if I'd attempted it, there would have been a 1/16" gap at one side, a 3/4" gap the other side and the first time I fired the engine it would have rocked in its mountings and bent everything out of shape.

Off topic but why do manufacturers move their HQs so often ?

SAAB GB had a place in Marlow, moved lock stock and barrel to Northampton and lots of staff relocated then lo and

behold back to Marlow they went.

Now look where they are !

Honda didn't spend a huge amount of time in their place near Slough did they ?

My basic understanding of commercial property, is that more and more landlords are making leases shorter, some are now 3 years. Plus at the moment planning regulations have also been relaxed so that landlords can change the usage from commercial to residential, so you'll see empty buildings of that size being turned into flats.

lots of commercial premises in Basingstoke have been and are being turned into flats, including a huge IBM building near the station - which is now the tallest building between London and New York

Various offices above shops are being turned into flats as well, I assume the demand for property far outweighs that for office space.

Back to BMW - BMW UK and BMW finance (currently in Hook) are going to share the same building, so guess it makes sense to move to a bigger building

You can add another manufacturer to the "much more recent Sunday service" ghosts of PHSS past - Hinda have moved from their Dachet offices to a new place in Bracknell

It used to be the AA Building in basingstoke, my son told me and I did not believe him!
It is true though...

Shame, was a nice venue for a Sunday Service. I remember when this turned up...

As well as the standard BMW stuff, which was rather nice...

Wasn't this the one, where someone was a bit "over-zealous" on the roads outside as well when leaving ?

Well I wouldn't try to recreate it - the building is no longer there! Totally demolished a couple of weeks ago!

Curiously enough by the company named after a certain BTCC driver!

They relocated to Farnborough along with Mini. Have taken over 3 buildings that were originally built for Nokia.
We've just finished supplying some equipment there.

I work close by and BMW left that building quite early on this year. As mentioned above it's now demolished, but the car park is now in use by another business.
