Being in the market for an Cayman i was wondering if the newly announced 981 Cayman Black Edition was worth it? Or will just drop in value big time when the face-lift model is here next year?

I have noticed they have not made this one limited like the 987 version!?

Anyone else looking at this?

Everything bar GT's, air cooled or fancy drops in value, if you like it and can afford to buy one do it and enjoy driving the wheels off it.

Oh and it's very nice...

If you want the spec, it looks like a good deal, and it's probably a spec that will sell easily in the future. But the real issue is what the discount situation is. I suspect there isn't a great rush for anything other than a GTS/Spyder/GT4 at the moment, so you may get a good discount on other models. So if it's what you want I'd push hard - 10% might be a very good deal. Down the line, I think the 6 cylinder models will hold up well after the turbos come in - but it is just speculation.

Well playing with the online con-fig, i've managed to stick 6k worth of extra's to it! I would be wanting at least 10% if i was to order a new one. Always try and buy 2nd hand but i guess its all swings and round abouts on how much each car goes down.

The 6k does include the £1700 sport design body kit!

According to my calcs you save around £3000 over buying a standard Cayman with the same options. Looks like a good saving - but only if you actually want the options specified.

^^^ This

Mr Porsche really doesn't want to sell base 2.7 Caymans for £39,700 and is keen to tempt you in with "£6,000 worth" of options which only cost him £500 to fit.

I would also check out what's on the base Cayman S before you make a decision if you could fancy the bigger engine.

IMO the best value is in the base cars, whichever one you go for. You really don't need £6,000 of options, although I know some people manage to crank that up to £15,000 yikes

Wouldn't argue with any of that. But most buyers (me too) do succumb to the desire to have the toys that we all expect on even mid-range saloons. If the car is a weekend toy, then a base car may well make sense. As a DD it's difficult to accept - and it's a question which rip-off option we are prepared to pay for.

The cayman would be a DD. The extra options below that i would like on the already quite full black edition -

Black leather interior
SportDesign package Exclusive
Power steering Plus
Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)
Sports exhaust system Exclusive
Sport Chrono Package with dynamic transmission mounts
Sports seats Plus (2-way, electric)
Smoking package
BOSE® surround sound-system
Digital radio

This comes to £53,923.00

The S with the same options comes to £60,671.00. No idea if the S comes standard with the free options in the black edition.

Well we did a lot better than a grand off, factory order to our spec and the car will be picked up shortly.

There is no S Black Edition as far as I am aware.

Not sure what point you are trying to make. Assuming you are OK with a black 2.7, you are better starting with Black Edition unless there are some high cost things - 20" wheels or PCM for eg which you actually DON'T want.

Was this the standard 2.7 or the black edition?

I was just seeing what the 2.7 black was vs the standard Cayman S

Ouch. Personally I'd find it difficult to spend an additional 50% of the cost of the car on options.

Also it's worth remembering that options generally depreciate more rapidly than the car to which they are fitted.

981s are great cars though!

To be fair we ordered ours several months ago before it became clear that the 981.2s were likely to be getting 4 pot turbos replacing the current sixes. I gather that a lot of the remaining slots for the current model were snapped up.

£1500 is a standard discount for PCP (Which you can get rid of in the first month usually)
£500 seemed a pretty normal discount
I got additional on top of the above. Base and S can be discounted, GTS and GT4 unlikely.

I collect mine at the end of the month, Ireland might be different but I got a large enough discount to increase your pie consumption and I know at least one other member managed the same. BOTH cars in this case are factory orders but it easier to get discounted stock cars. All 3 local dealers immediately offered £1500 for PCP and £500 on top (Cayman or Boxster).

The more you spend on options the easier it is to negotiate a discount, because the dealer makes a lot more profit.

I'd be surprised if there's much room to haggle if you wander in and say, "I'd like a £39,700 Cayman please". On the orher hand if you're looking to spend £65,000 on one there will be a lot more scope!

According to a previous post you can take finance and pay it off at any time without penalty. If that is really the case then you may well be able to get a discount without actually paying much (or perhaps any) interest. I don't know that for a fact myself but it's surely worth investigating.

I'll report back once I have the car but my understanding is the same with PCP.

Pah, I managed £17k on mine, 2 years ago. Guess that 'value' has disappeared by now, but I'm potentially in for the long haul, so not an issue?
