Have any of you left a motorbike in the Gatwick free parking for a few days?

I am flying out on Friday and Returning on Sunday. Any recommendations?

I read on here I can just turn up and park? : http://www.parkingforbikes.com/airport/londonairpo...

Lodger of mine used to live in Spain to work remotely and then pop back to the UK to show her face once a fortnight / three weeks or so and used to abandon a shonky old ER5 at Gatwick for weeks at an end.

Yes - it is (or was) a corner of the ground floor car park. Hard to figure out where, I asked. But I seem to recall there was some railings to which it could be chained. Regularly do this with heathrow, only once at gatwick; free and so convenient.

This sounds promising! Will just tip up tomorrow morning and abandon it somewhere then. Hopefully it will still be there when i return smile

What do you guys do with your kit? I can leave the helmet in the topbox, but can't fit the jacket/boots/pants.

They don't seem to have lockers available any more

Helmet and boots in the topbox. Tatty textile trousers over the lock (threaded down one leg), wear/take the jacket with me.

@Gatwick I just asked the parking attendant. ISTR it was a case of leaving it in the yellow hatched area in the corners of the ground floor of the short stay where the cars can't get into.. but that's just my memory.

I am never getting my helmet and boots in my top box, but i reckon i can get my textile trousers and jacket in one pannier, boots in the other and helmet in the top box. Sorted!

I will report back tommorow. I am getting there a few hours before my flight to make sure i have time to sort any issues.

Well just in case anybody wonders in future it was a breeze. Turned up at short stay parking near departures and drove around the barrier and stuffed my bike on the first floor of car park 5 behind a sign, all the gear in the panniers and I was done. Free parking galore!

Do the same at heathrow about every other week. Main reason I keep a the old beater/first bike. Beats the cr*p out of taxis and doesn't get stuck in traffic, absolute godsend when you have to travel regularly smile
