PHTV Clip of the Day - GT-R vs Speciale vs 650S
Can a GT-R really see off a pair of bona fide supercars over the quarter-mile? Time to find out!
Video: Nissan GT-R Vs Ferrari 458 Speciale Vs McLaren 650s Drag Race
A drag race between supercars from McLaren and Ferrari - represented respectively by the 650S Spider and 458 Speciale - is a tempting enough showdown in its own right. Spiced up here with that classic blue-collar hero (all relative) and habitual humbler of supercars the Nissan GT-R. Four-wheel drive turbo traction versus F1 derived carbon fibre tech or the relatively simple charms of a screaming naturally aspirated Italian V8? Got to be worth a watch...

Im not quite sure what the aims of this short clip were, as it taught us nothing new.
Two straight line drag races that had two different 'winners', no times or terminal speeds.
Hmmmn, this was a bit like one of those 'stocking fillers' that you used to get at Christmas, a tangerine wrapped in silver foil.
Strangely I watched something very similar on YouTube this week, run by another online forum, and which came with a purpose and clearly defined parameters.
A mini group test would have been better, pitching them against each other on a lap of a track, a short road route (A & B roads, preferably including a mountain stretch) and a 1/4 mile sprint.
Yep, sounds familiar, but let's face it, you watched that show despite the presenters being tits (or cocks, as one presenter kept saying), and a tweaking of a well-tried formula would have got you plaudits instead of brickbats.
I actually think that if you had given me, an average Joe, a Go-Pro and a GTR, then I could have produced something entertaining and informative to us readers.
Sorry guys, but a fair bit below your usual standards...

All that serves to tell me is what a bargain the GTR is.
Most GTR owners would seriously contemplate even minor mods, which in isolation would yield a car that would improve performance metrics way beyond anything tested here.
Funny thing is, as much as I like the GTR, I'd still prefer a second hand one with Litchfield mods on it, and would happily invest the rest.
