Looking at getting into a 330Ci (or maybe a 4 door if it's the right one)

As it's predominantly for the Mrs - who's back plays up- I'm told the sport seats are most supportive. Problem is there are some nice looking non-sport 330Ci's locally whereas sports seem a chunk more $ for less car (SH, miles etc). Are they that much better than the standard? It's not like she'll be chucking it around.

I have a bad back, had a E46 and found sport seats brilliant.
Looking at a few pictures of SE's the seats don't look supportive at all. the side bit is missing!!!

It might, however, be worth checking that some SE's didn't come with sports seats even if this was the first owner added option?
By all means post up the links to ones you are considering, or get the VIN number and check the decoder bmwarchive.org

You can always buy a full sport interior off of ebay and do the swap yourself, it's pretty easy, I did it in my convertible when I put in a custom interior, and changed out my SE seats for sport ones. Much much better support and the thigh extension is super useful as well

As above, used sports seats are plentiful and easy to change. I put some in my SE:

You could also specify sport seats in the SE, so there will be some out there already.

Having had an Se & fitted sport seats the difference is very well worth it.

Or buy a 325ti - they all had Sport seats and suspension, regardless of whether they were SE or Sport models! confused

I had a 320td some years back with the standard seats but now have a 325ti with the Sport ones and yes, there is a huge difference! To the extent I would not want any BMW without Sport seats, unless I planned to swap them!
