I thought you had a corsa 1.8SRi.

Entirely depends - is it a 2 litre astra, and how much petty do you want to use?

Both will produce different sounds.

Do you want induction noise or exhaust noise?

I would say both and a custom remap for best results.

Save your money for monster stickers and use that battery grinder you stole and cut the cat off at the downpipe, get it weighed in with the rest, then remove a plug lead, sounds well wikid like a subaru innit.

Induction kits can make a nice noise. But will probably always leave you wanting more, as you'll only really hear them when at higher rpm and with plenty of load on the engine.

Some kits can also screw with the air fule ratio. Which means your car may run worse with one fitted unless you get it tuned for the extra air flow. But that gets pricey.

An induction kit is however easy to remove and sell on. While some exhaust may not, depending how they are fitted.

If it's a car you plan to keep a while and has an engine worth hearing. Then spend the money. If not I'd put the money aside towards your next car. And without wishing to sound insulting, I suspect there is very little you can do to make an Astra really sound sporty or good. All you can do is make them sound louder, but they'll probably still sound rubbish. Just a fact of inline 4 pot really.

And if it isn't a speedy car, then few things are more comical than a loud exhaust on a family hatch farting it's way down the road. So on that note I'd vote induction kit, as you'll still hear it, but people won't laugh at the car going down the road.

I would like a sporty exhaust sound but dnt want it too loud so was thinking of keeping standard box to c how it sounds then mayb upgrade backbox at later date

Changing induction or exhaust flow without tweaking injection, etc (custom remap) will probably make your car run worse than standard. But on a cheaper low performance car that is probably not very noticeable. If had to opt for one I would go induction, as someone said can be resold easier

I'd personally never run an induction kit even on a standard engine without a remap, too much chance of going lean.

Still with a remap, they can sound superb and add a small amount of power on a non-turbo car.

My Impreza has a K+N induction kit although I had to when I went to a front mount intercooler as the piping would otherwise foul the standard airbox.

Running at high boost with that kit on my car sounds wonderful! The induction/turbo sounds are amazing! cloud9

In that case, I'd look for a resonated exhaust system. There seems to be quite a few from the likes of Milltek, Mongoose etc.

Back in the day, a lot of my friends drove sporty Vauxhalls and swore by Peco exhausts.

From what I remember they actually sounded quite good without being too loud which was the appeal of them.

Have a look here...

That's what lambda control is for.

OP I just wouldn't bother. Save your money on junk mods plus extra insurance and you'll be driving a performance car much sooner.

As long as you're clear both are just going to make it sound better.

Probably the exhaust I'd have thought. Do Piper do one?
