Looking into winter vs all-season tyres, and quite fancy simply running all-season, er... all season.

Unfortunately the profiles on the M sport f10 seem to make this impossible, as I simply can't find any 275/35/18, and only one 235/40/18 (Maxxis).

Question is, can I safely run a different profile on these wheels (without invalidating insurance), or should I stick to plan A and just get a set of winter wheels/tyres. Alternatively, is there another source that will actually do all-seasons for these wheels?

There's a reason all season tyres aren't made in bigger sizes for heavier / more powerful cars, they still aren't up to the task as they give away so much in dry braking.

Is there? Is there really...?

295/35 20 105V XL, to Porsche OE spec in a Panawka size, isn't a "bigger size" for "heavier, more powerful" cars?

You could try 245/45/18

Did plan A involve fitting smaller dia wheels? ie is there a smaller size wheel option in the handbook?

Pirelli P6 Four Season is available in that size in Germany, maybe worth having a chat to the Pirelli importer?

That's very loose definition of all season, I'd love to see it tested but I don't think it would be up to much in the snow or ice. The Pirelli Cinturato All Season is their true all season tyre they've targeted at the UK climate: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Pirelli/Cinturat...

"The Pirelli Cinturato P7 All-Season Plus delivered good snow traction and exhibited good control and stability during handling maneuvers"

Let me rephrase that - I'd like to see it in a European test.

An American all season tyre is vastly different from a European one, so much so that tyres like the very well regarded Continental ExtremeContact series in America can't be sold in Europe, as they just wouldn't compare to our tyres.

What tyres do you have on it at the moment? I don't mean size, I mean brand name and type.

I'll be giving the new Michelin CrossClimate's a go on my Golf at the end of this month. On my BMW I use 2 sets of wheels & tyres for summer / winter but now I have another car I dont have the additional space to do the same with the Golf.

Might be worth checking if they are available in your dimensions.

Uniroyal Rainsport 3's

These aren't 'all season' but performance rain tyres. Very good in the dry, nothing better in the wet as far as I've experienced or heard.

Been running winter tyres on my Citroen C6 which certainly isn't a light beastie and even with a drive to SW France in the summer the tyres have performed very well and still have plenty tread

AND they are Nankang!

Frankly it was your posts/site that got me interested in the first place, guess I'll change my mind! BMW ones come with Bridgestone Blizzak LM32, what would you recommend here, given that I struggle to find winters in these profiles too if I were to keep the 18's and simply change the rubber?

Sure did, the BMW recommended option is 225/45/17

Couldn't tell you without looking, but I think some sort of Pirelli

The reason I asked is that very often replacing "dunno" tyres with top quality items can avoid the need to fret about the changing seasons.

Granted, but it's the factory fit tyres still on it (hence dunno), and BMW aren't well known for their awesome snow performance on any summers.

Unless of course someone tells me to stick Michelin Super Sport's all round instead!

In your situation I'd run the Conti TS850 through the winter, or the gen-2 vector 4season as a winter, then a dedicated summer tyre.

I wouldn't want to lose 15% dry braking for 9 months of the year.

I'm running some 245/40/20s I believe that are all season.

They definitely make them for large cars to whoever said not.

There's "all season tyres" and there's all season tyres. There's a hell of a lot all season tyres sold in America which would be useful in Europe.

I'd be interested to know what tyres you're running in 20's, and whether they're mountain and snowflake symbol marked (the european standard mark for a tyre with snow / ice capabilities)

Ah just went and checked, they are 275/40/20 and m+s rated. Memory playing up. Brand is "prestivo" got them on my cherry and they seemed to cope so figured they will be fine on the Range Rover too. Cherry ones weren't m+s though.

There's a hell of a lot of winter and all-season rubber that's sold elsewhere in Europe that isn't sold in the UK - our market's still small and naive when it comes to anything but "just tyres".
