When I bought my V8S 11 years ago, I had a choice of about 6 or 7 V8s for sale, about 2 dozen V6s and all the other models were pretty well-represented in the PH classifieds, on TVR Webmart, Autotrader, on the car club website, etc.

What's happened? They're all relative deserts now.

Have so many been wrote off, or are people keeping them longer?

Are the V8 prices on the rise? Do we know how many V8S cars are left on the road?

See thread on this page re the V8S just featured in Classic Cars mag.
Regarding values, they rate the exceptional car featured at £30k (a touch high methinks but it will please the owner!)whereas their car price guide says Concours value £12k....hmmm.
Not a clue why so few for sale now, except you will always get more on the market Spring/early Summer rather than now.

People who own an S understand its charms and would only sell if circumstances dictated. There will be less and less cars for sale in next few years. There are relatively few vehicles in existence, some are still reaching the end of their life as they are uneconomic to repair after accident or whatever. One day demand will exceed supply and prices will rise. However, it is lovely that we have a dedicated bunch of owners who use their cars rather than regarding them as investments.

There really aren't that many around, in just over two years of owning an S, I've literally only seen two on the road.

As far as selling goes, no way! Mine is kept outside, used in all weathers every few days and doesn't let me down.

Fantastic little sports cars, and a great secret to people who know about them. smile

You need to get yourself to one of the S meets or Eurotour.

It is worth having a look at those figures. I noticed that there has been a sharp rise in the number of registrations of all TVR's over the last year, presumably as a result of changes in the law, but interesting to see what presumably are more representative figures.

The 'S' is a rare beast! Seen a few chimaera's but only seen one 'S' on the road in 5 years and that was a lovely red V8 driving down Penn Road, midlands ( If anyone on here)? about 2 months ago. For me the rarity of the 'S' adds to it's charm.

Blimey, was it that long ago Graham?!

You're right, the number and choice of TVRs available is very limited these days. I have cast my eye toward the relevant classified section here on PH a couple of times in recent months and there are significantly less than when I was looking to buy the V8S.

Prices are certainly different too. I was recently sat pondering what would need to happen for me to raise the funds for a Griff purchase (probably not going to happen, but I like to dream), but it seems my understanding of what they cost is very out of touch with current prices. I will need to save harder and for a while longer than I imagined! Gives me time to sort the garage out though. I couldn't get a 1/18 model TVR in there the mo, let a alone a real one!

The aforementioned Classic Cars price guide gives the top price for a Griff as £19500 against £12000 for a V8S.
Not much use in the real world IMO.
