I am currently looking to buy a new car and have £11,000 to spend, however I'd rather spend around 10k and pay off my insurance.

I am looking for quite a fast car and looks sporty but I cannot decide which one to get.
I was looking for opinions on cars that people may have driven and maybe a few new ideas!

I've been set on the MK2 Seat Leon Cupra, also looking at a Honda Civic Type R (FN2), maybe a Mazda 3 MPS or Megane RS.

Hope I can get some help!!

3 of those are relatively similar packages, the Honda obviously being NA will be low on torque so is the outlier in terms of what it provides and probably the slowest in the real world though you get to rev it out more which you might find more fun.

[bias]I know you could get a very well looked after Megane 250 or early 265 for about that privately and well.... that's the best package out of all of them imo[/bias]

Though the real answer is, drive some.

I don't have anything against the cars you list, they are all fine machines, assuming you need 4/5 seats and a large boot. But they all look like exactly what they are, a fwd hatchback. I just can't connect that upright style and "sporty looking" together.

Surely if you want something "sporty looking" for £10k, then an MX-5, Honda S2000, Lotus Elise or Vauxhall VX220 would be the front runners.

I do really like the meganes, I've just never driven one yet! It's probably the newest car within the price range really.

The only thing putting me off the likes of an S2000 is practicality!

How about a Mitsubishi evo ?

0-60 in under 5 seconds but servicing comes around often and is pricey.

Or maybe a Subaru wrx sti , longer service intervals and 0-60 in 5.3 so stil a quick car.

I had two 2 seater convertibles in a row as my daily cars, after becoming single I decided to replace them with something more practical so bought a nice sporty hatchback. I've had it over a year and nobody has ever sat in the back yet. I'm going back to a 2 seater next time, with a roof that has the unlimited headroom option.

Only you can decide what you really need from a practical point of view but the S2000 (or various other cars as listed by 300) would be more fun.

Obviously everyone's situation is different. But might be worth thinking how often you'd need more than a 2 seat convertible. If it's not often, are there alternatives, like could you borrow a car?

When I was 18 I had a 2 seat convertible, it was 100% fine for all my needs. As other mates had cars, so there was always enough seating for the people going out.

Sadly I can't insure anything like an Evo or WRX yet!! Or I would have one!

I am going to have a look at some S2000's as they do look good!
I would rather have a bigger car for work etc. But really a its not desperate...

Did the OP sleep with your wife? I'm assuming there must be a reason you are trying to upset his bank manager.

Are s2000's cheaper to insure then?

Have a look at bmw z4's or if a meganne is on your list try the clio 197 cup version as its lighter than the meg.

Why does every one of your posts always spout the same old diatribe?

OP asks for thoughts on a hot hatch - you reply with suggestions of a 2 seater sports car

OP asks for an economical diesel family wagon - you suggest a 1960's American V8

OP asks about a fun, reliable weekend toy - you recommend a TR7 with a V8 conversion....

And so it goes on - can't you at least once just offer a useful opinion on the cars in question, offer a similar alternative, or as if you have nothing useful to offer, just say nothing ?

ETA: Just looked through a few of your posts from the last few days and found this gem...

So I currently own a Clio 1.4 ( first car ) I will have only 1 years NCB and am looking for something with a bit of power (150bhp) or more.

I have 6k to spend without insurance/petrol etc.

I am not interested in Corsa/Astra VXR neither an A3.

Must be fairly reliable and good fun.

I was interested in 197 Cups but may be out of my budget, also the car must have done less than 60k miles.
Don't be a sheep, buy something interesting.

Not only will it be tremendous fun, it'll teach you a lot about driving and it'll retain it's value (might even increase). So when you look to purchase car number 3, you'll have an even bigger pot of money.

I would say a really clean Civic Type R would be good. Or a mint Clio 197 Cup perhaps?
Focus RS MK 1?

I was in your situation about a year ago and I decided to buy two cars for the money.

I got an s2000 and a mk4 diesel Golf. I use the Golf for carrying the bikes, driving long distances etc and drive the S2000 when I feel like it. I do service the Golf myself so the only additional costs of owning it are tax (£120/year), MOTs and a few parts for servicing. If you look after those Golfs they will run and run.

Off the top of my head:
s2000: £9000
Golf: £900
Multicar Insurance: £800 (the best quote I got for only the s2000 was £750)
Tax: £400 (S2000 is pre-2006 for £280/year tax)
~£11000

Good luck with the search smile
