Hey All

So thinking of selling my TVR (Chim 450). It's bloody lovely but a change of life situation means I am now going to be doing 4/5000 more miles a year than planned, so it's time for it to move on, as I don't really want to rack up tons of mileage on it, not to mention the fuel bill rise!

At the same time I am looking to start saving for a house deposit etc, so it's time for something cheaper and worth less as well.

So suggestions on a postcard please. Budget around 3K, hoping to achieve about 30MPG, preferably RWD, and hopefully still a little fun. 4 or 2 seats are fine. I am interior guy so something with a quality inside would be great! So not after a lot........

I have owned MX5s, e36s and 350z's before and would like something different if possible!

Happy to entertain obscure suggestions as long as it's going to work most of the time!

Thanks!

Bit more than you want to spend but a VX220 is the way forward, dirt cheap to run, amazing fun and a proper weapon when driven properly!

But If you really are serious about a nice interior look elsewhere!

Not quite RWD, but what about a Subaru Impreza Turbo, lots of fun and very reliable to boot.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, please keep them coming!

Are the MK3 MR2s any good to drive?

A VX is too much money unfortunately!

I don't think you can get a 350 for 3,5K surely not?

Boxster is probably the same, plus I am not sure I would want a boxster that wasn't an S having driven all different models before.

Alfa GT diesel is a thought, but they aren't RWD and are probably horrifically unreliable!

Also, I love the fact that RX8s are so cheap but they are awful on fuel and probably not massively reliable!

330 Ci ticks all the boxes, you can pick up a Mk5 golf GTI for that money. But if it was me i would go for an Impreza with Prodrive pack. Not RWD but one hell of a lot of fun for the money

I've just got myself a cheap MR2 roadster for a bit of fun and it's a hoot to drive.
Handling seems good, can get > 35 MPG if you drive sensibly. Parts aren't expensive.
Practicality isn't great but neither is it with a VX220. If you're after cheap fun then they're a laugh.
I intend to do a few track days. There's even an MR2 race series if you fancy it.
They're worth considering for sure.

What about the 330d E46. The torque on the back wheels makes them a bit of fun and the manuals sell for less money. I had 5 of the E39 version and whilst they never set my world on fire they are exceptionally good value for money. Only issue was MAF on all of them, if it ever feels down on power get it checked. I got beaten off the lights by a transit van when it was faulty frown
