What could possibly go wrong?
Discussion
Just bought a 20 year old 195k miles Defender 90 300TDi as my main car. I've wanted one for years and my X-Trail bores the st our of me. I have a TVR so it isn't like I am unused to punishment.
As the title, what could possibly go wrong?
I am waiting for the seller to get the V5 back from removing his plate then going to pick it up. I am unreasonably excited about the whole thing.
There is a caveat that the history file could be used to beat a whale to death.

I'm hopefully picking up my 'new' 25yr old defender 90 this weekend having owned a navara aventura for the last 3yrs. A complete change of direction having been spoiled with lots of electronic gizmos and heated leather seats but I'm bored with keep throwing large pots of money at it.
It's 'only' done 118k but im going to throw the standard 2.5td away and put a 300tdi in in the interest of going over 50mph.
Let's see where this thread goes when we've both owned them a few weeks and winter sets in!
There must be something about Tvr owners and land rovers. I own a Tuscan! Glutton for punishment?

Collected and back home without incident. It sits on the motorway at 70 quite happily and drives totally straight. It needs the mirrors tightening if possible as they move down under the force of airflow. Oh, and the sidelight warning bulb is a bit intermittent.
The guy who took me down says it smokes a bit under boost. I have a feeling the fuel pump has had the wick turned up a bit. Cant see anything in the mirror though.
I've removed the stupid windscreen sunstrip which gave me neck cramp and the illegal tints on the front door windows.
I loved it, so all good really.

I have been checking the levels and it appears that the main gearbox is the culprit. I suspect the easiest option will be a recon exchange 'box. This is marginally irritating but the prices for these won't break the bank.
The steering box also needs attention as it has decided to piss fluid all over from the main seal and the steering is more wobbly than it was/should be.
I still love it though. I've changed the door locks and ignition barrel so I only have two keys (fuel + ignition/doors) and I love how simple it is to work on.

Picked up mine last night, a 96 300tdi 90 with 206k. Full history, one owner and Epsom won me over. Slowest I've ever been on the motorway, kids, wife and dogs love it.
Trevo450, who did you get your locks from? As that's my first job.
Mine, all mine....
