Although arguably even at 3-4 10ths slower Merc at budget prices would a) quite probably be faster than some of the other current offerings, and b) free budget that could be spent on otherwise improving the chassis/aero, and (presumably) be pretty reliable. Not cut and dried, but not entirely daft either.

On a power track like Monza or Spa, it still would have had an advantage over Ferrari, Renault etc.

Imagine that engine in last years Red Bull.....

Think that was a political thing by merc, look we are providing a cheap F1 engine but no one wanted it.

Would people have taken it if they new how fast the full fat engine was going to be?!
